I wasafraid of women, and didn't know what to say tothem, and I was ALONE.In other words, I not only felt like I had aSERIOUS insecurity issue and fear, but even WORSE,I didn't feel like I could TELL anyone about it...or get help.I felt like a dork if I even MENTIONED thetopic to other guys... as if even talking about itmade it clear that I was a loser who didn't evendeserve an answer.So here I was, over and over again, insituations where I would see women I wanted tomeet... but I just didn't know what to do.And I didn't know what would happen if I DID dosomething. I was afraid of the unknown.Eventually, this led me to believe that therewas probably something wrong with ME - that Ishould just accept and deal with it... and thatI'd probably wind up either alone or having tosettle for a relationship with a woman that Iwasn't attracted to.Ever been there?THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION...Well, when I finally made the decision to learnabout how to meet women on MY terms, I made it mygoal to learn how to get women's phone numbers.I "naturally" assumed that if I was able to geta woman's number, that would be the key. That wasthe "hard part" to me. If I could approach womenand get their numbers quickly, I thought I wouldbe "The Man."So I went to work.Here's what I learned...To begin with, I learned that most women willrespond somewhere between "neutral" and "positive"to being "approached" by a man.Explained differently, out of the hundreds andhundreds of times that I've started conversationswith women and seen my friends start conversationswith women, I have VERY, VERY rarely seen a womanrespond by getting upset, saying something rude,or acting offended.The typical worst case scenario is a woman noteven stopping and just walking away, or respondingcoldly.And like I said, this is a typical WORST case.Another important lesson that I learned is thatwhen a woman responds in a way that is somethingother than positive and receptive, it's usuallyabout HER, not about ME. In other words, eithershe's not a nice person, she's not available,she's in a hurry, she's in a bad mood, orwhatever... things that aren't within my control,and that aren't my fault (or problem).I also realized that I was CAUSING a majorproblem for myself without even realizing it...I used to have this idea that it would bebetter if a woman didn't think that I was"interested" in her. I thought that if I couldfigure out a way to start a conversation and makeher like me because I was a "nice guy," then Icould somehow get her to see me in a "moreromantic" light later on.HUGE MISTAKE.Little did I know that women ASSUME that you'reinterested in MORE than friendship from the verybeginning, no matter WHAT you do or say.So when you try to act all innocent andfriendly, like you just want to be friends, womenusually assume that you're HIDING something, orthat you're just another major Wuss Boy...This is a bad thing.I learned that it is FAR better to make noexcuses at all and NEVER try to cover up the factthat you're approaching her.Later on, as you're talking to her over tea orcoffee, and you're teasing her, making fun of her,and busting on her, SHE'LL start to wonder on herown what the hell is going on... which is perfect.In the beginning, just be damn good at whatyou're doing... and don't try to cover it up orpretend.Pretending that you're a nice, friendly guywho's only starting an innocent conversation is adirect express route to an evening of selftouching.>>>Before I get to "the goods," I need tomention something. If she does (and mostwomen do), she'll say, "Yes." You're just treatingthe "yes" as if she said, "Yes, I'll give it toyou..." It's a smooth, easy way to ask a "lowrisk" question, and have a woman be the one toMOST likely give you her information.- Email is considered "safe."I mean, what are you going to do, send her 100emails a day? Ooooohhh, scary.- You're waiting until she's actually in theMIDDLE of writing down her email for you to askher to also write her number down.This makes it FAR more likely that she'll giveyou her number. At this point she's alreadydemonstrating to you and her that she's OK withyou contacting her again... and since she'sALREADY writing, she's very likely to just KEEPwriting... her number.3) The "Do You Have A Card" VariationYou can also ask, "Do you have a card?" if youchoose.This is a classy, low risk way to ask a womanfor her contact information.Now, a lot of women DO NOT have cards, soyou're going to need the follow-up for when shesays, "No, I don't have one on me"... such as"Well, invent one for me!"This is funny, charming, and smooth.Just take out a pen, and hand it to her.She'll know what to do.4) Be ReadyProbably half to two thirds of the time, awoman will just write down her email for you.It's AMAZING how easily women will give outtheir email addresses.But sometimes you'll meet with resistance.I can't go into all of the millions of possiblescenarios, but I will talk about the most COMMONone.Probably a quarter of the time, a woman willsay something like, "I don't give out my email topeople I don't know" or "I don't even know you"etc.This one used to REALLY stump me... until Ifound a simple solution...Here it is: Just point to the paper, and say"Write it down."If she keeps resisting, make a joke.Say, "It's OK, just write it down. I'll onlyemail you every five minutes for the next month."The SIMPLE "Write it down" works wonders.You'll probably overcome HALF of the "I don'tgive out my email/number" comments with this onesimple answer. Use it.5) Mentally RehearseOne of the greatest investments you can make inyourself is MENTAL REHEARSAL.Take some time to imagine exactly what it'sgoing to be like when you ask a woman for heremail/number.Close your eyes, and picture a situation.Imagine how you're going to be standing, whatyou're going to say, what she's going to say, howyou're going to take out the pen and hand it toher, how you're going to answer any objectionsthat she gives you.Don't wait until you're in the situation torealize that you don't know how to handlesomething!You'll realize all kinds of great stuff whenyou mentally rehearse.You'll be vividly imagining a greatconversation, then you'll get to the part whereyou ask, "Do you have email?" and she says, "Yes"and you say, "Great, give it to me, I'd like totalk to you again..." and as you mentally put yourhand in your pocket you'll realize that you don'tusually carry a pen with you!Or you'll realize that you don't carry paperwith you.Or you'll realize that your pen is usually inyour jacket, which is usually on the back of yourchair, and not with you at the bar.When you mentally rehearse, you programyourself for success. So just DO IT!6) Don't Sell Too Far In AdvanceThis is SUCH an important concept. Maybe eventhe most important thing I'm going to say.When you're getting a woman's email and number,DO NOT try to convince her to marry you on thespot!Don't "ask her out."Don't tell her that your mom is going to loveher.Don't ask typical stupid questions like, "Doyou have a boyfriend"... and make it seem likeyou're qualifying her for marriage.No, no, nooooo!As a matter of fact, the ONLY thing you want todo is get her information.Many guys make the mistake of talking aboutgoing out on a date, being interested, etc. ortipping the woman off in some way that he's VERYinterested in her.This creates pressure and resistance. There'sZERO mystery or tension created when you do thisstuff.All you have to say is, "I'd like to talk toyou again." That's enough.And by the way, when you DO talk to her again,make sure you avoid the same mistake! Don't talkfuture and relationship and marriage then either.Just take things to the next step, which shouldbe a simple thing like tea and stimulatingconversation.One small step at a time, and don't sell toofar in advance... ever. It only creates resistanceand nervousness on the part of the woman when youhint that you're "interested" in a big way.So there you go... you've now learned how toget a woman's email and number within minutes offirst meeting her.Use this stuff, it's taken me YEARS to figureit all out...And if you'd like to know what to do AFTER youget her email and number, I have some advice foryou. You know, it's been too long since we talked
about how to get a woman's email address and phone
number quickly after meeting her.

conversation about it, and give you some more
great ideas...

THE CHALLENGE...

I can still remember exactly what it was like
before I learned some of the secrets of how to
meet women.

I have very clear memories of women that I saw
literally YEARS ago who I wanted to meet... but I
just didn't know what to do or how to do it.

In some of the cases, I was actually talking to
the girl, enjoying a conversation... and REALLY
wanting to ask her for her number... but I just
didn't do it.

But WHY?

Why didn't I just say, "Hey, give me your
number?"

The fact is that I was AFRAID.

I was afraid that I'd say the wrong thing, or
that the woman I was talking to would say "no," or
that I'd offend her... or whatever.

THE GOODS...

OK, so here are a few pointers when
approaching:

1) It's OK To Ask Immediately...

Bagi anda para pemula di adsense, jika telah mengikuti langkah-langkah yang disebutkan dalam tiga artikel saya sebelumnya (adsense, niche, dan adwords), berarti sekarang anda sudah punya sebuah web atau blog yang sudah ditempelin iklan adsense. Ibarat jualan toko sudah jadi, sekarang tinggal mencari pembeli, atau traffic situs anda. Ada banyak cara untuk meningkatkan traffic, seperti dari search engine, forum, komunitas, mailing list, ezine publishing, pay per click advertising dan lain-lain. Namun sebelum mempromosikan situs anda, ada baiknya dilihat lagi tema atau niche situs anda, apakah kata kunci di situs termasuk kata kunci yang dibayar tinggi atau high paying keywords (HPK) atau tidak, agar aktivitas promosi anda tidak sia-sia dan bisa menghasilkan income yang berarti.

Catatan : Tulisan ini dalam konteks jika tipe situs anda adalah tipe marketer yang menyediakan informasi yang dibutuhkan sesuai dengan tuntutan market, bukan berdasarkan pada hobi atau keahlian anda.

High Paying Keywords (HPK) adalah kata-kata kunci yang mempunyai nilai pay per click (PPC) yang tinggi, tentu setiap adsenser ingin iklan yang muncul di situsnya mempunyai nilai PPC yang tinggi, bagaimana cara agar iklan HPK ini muncul, ya tentu saja dengan membuat situs dengan tema / niche High Paying Keyword. Berapa sih nilai keyword yang bisa disebut HPK? Itu sih relative, tapi menurut saya keyword dengan nilai PPC lebih besar dari 10 dolar per klik sudah termasuk HPK.

Untuk ilustrasi lebih jauh, contohnya sebagai berikut : Misalkan anda mempunyai dua buah situs, misalkan situs pertama dengan topic A yang mempunyai nilai PPC rata-rata 1 dolar per klik, sedangkan situs kedua dengan topic B mempunyai nilai PPC yang termasuk HPK dengan nilai 12 dolar per klik. Untuk mempromosikan situs , usaha yang anda keluarkan sama (kalaupun beda pasti tidak terlalu jauh), dan diakhir bulan hasil klik yang anda dapatkan kutang lebih sama, misalkan 100 klik untuk kedua situs. Berapa pendapatan masing-masing situs ? situs pertama dengan topic A dapat 1 dolar dikali 100, sama dengan 100 dolar, situs kedua dengan topic B yang bernilai HPK dapat 12 dolar kali 100, sama dengan 1200 dolar, jauh sekali kan bedanya?. Bisa diibaratkan seperti manajer di Indonesia dan Amerika yang bekerja di sebuah perusahaan sama, mempunyai posisi dan pekerjaan yang sama, kemampuan sama, tapi gajinya beda, karena yang di Amerika mempunyai nilai High Paying Keywords J….

Pertanyaan selanjutnya, bagaimana menemukan high paying keywords? Ini memang susah-susah gampang, untuk mengetahuinya anda perlu melakukan trial di Google Adwords ( lihat artikel adwords sebelumnya untuk mengetahui cara membuat account), masukkan satu keyword dan cek berapa PPC-nya., dari pengalaman, kata-kata yang termasuk HPK adalah keyword di bidang keuangan seperti insurance, loan dan frasa-frasanya ( auto insurance, home loan, etc, silahkan dikembangkan lagi dengan tools di adwords), atau yang berhubungan dengan internet sendiri, seperti domain name, server hosting, pay per click, search engine marketing dan sejenisnya.

OK, sekarang jika anda sudah menemukan keyword yang bernilai HPK, sebelum mengimplementasikannya, ada satu test atau pengecekan lagi yang perlu dilakukan, yaitu apakah iklan yang ditampilkan relevan dengan HPK yang anda bidik?. Ini sanagt perlu, karena meskipun situs anda mempunyatema yang sesuai dengan HPK, tetapi iklan yang kelaur tidak relevan dengan HPK, ya sama saja sia-sia. Sebagai contoh coba bandingkan dua website berikut http://ppcsem.blogspot.com/ dan http://insurance-guide.blogspot.com/ . Kedua situs tersebut mempunyai High Paying Keywords, yang pertama situs dengan topic pay per click dan search engine marketing, yang kedua tentang insurance. Coba perhatikan iklan yang keluar dari situs diatas. Yang pertama , iklan Ads by Google yang ditampilkan sejalan atau relevan dengan isi website , artinya isi situs berhasil mencapai target, sedangkan yang kedua kurang sejalan atau ada yang tidak relevan, , padahal umur situs http://ppcsem.blogspot.com/ lebih pendek dari http://insurance-guide.blogspot.com/ ,dan artikelnya lebih sedikit, kenapa situs yang kedua tidak menghasilkan iklan yang relevan? Karena keywords insurance meskipun termasuk HPK, dia tidak bernilai global, maksudnya para pengiklan insurance hanya mau iklannya muncul di Negara tertentu saja, misalkan amerika atau eropa, tidak di seluruh dunia, karena kebutuhan untuk produk insurance belum merata secara global. Sedangkan untuk keyword pay per click, merupakan HPK yang bernilai global, dan targetnya bisa berlaku di seluruh dunia.

Jadi, kesimpulannya, jika situs anda bertipe marketer penyedia informasi, pilihlah topic yang mempunyai High Paying Keyword, setelah mendapatkan HPK, lakukan tes dan seleksi, pilih HPK yang bernilai global, sehingga iklan yang keluar di situs anda juga bernilai tinggi.

Every web site, no matter how small, can make some money with affiliate programs. Slap on any affiliate banner or text link and you're bound to get some clicks eventually. But to really make money you have to have the right combination of key elements.
CONTENT + TRAFFIC + THE RIGHT AFFILIATE PROGRAM = $
Without these three key elements you probably won't see much in the way of income: (1) A website must be built and updated in such a way that the content brings people back to the site over and over again. (2) The affiliate programs must be related to the site content, so that the site offers are of significant interest to the visitors. (3) The referral fee must be substantial enough to make you want to promote the offer. When all three elements are in place, you are on your way.

His affiliate check for June would include $15 for his click-throughs and $300 for his sales commissions.

While Bob isn't going to get rich from his single affiliate, it does make his computer payment, his dial-up account fee, and some bonus money that month. III. PERSYARATAN KHUSUS
a. IPK minimum = 3,30 (tiga koma tiga puluh) untuk S.3 dan S.2, 3,00 (tiga koma nol-nol) untuk S.1 dan D.III,
b. Usia maksimum = 35 tahun (bagi pelamar yang berpendidikan S.3 dan S.2), 30 tahun (bagi pelamar yang berpendidikan S.1), 27 tahun (bagi pelamar yang berpendidikan D.III).
Usia maksimum berlaku pada tanggal 1 Nopember 2007

IV. PERSYARATAN ADMINISTRASI
a. Surat lamaran ditujukan kepada MENTERI DALAM NEGERI dengan alamat PO.BOX 4365 JKP 10043 harus ditulis tangan dan ditandatangani sendiri (bermaterai Rp. 6.000,-), paling lambat 6 (enam) hari cap pos sejak diiklankan melalui Koran (sampai tanggal 29 September 2007) dan tidak melayani lamaran yang diserahkan secara langsung selain melalui PO.BOX yang telah ditentukan;
b. Pada sudut kiri atas bagian depan amplop lamaran ditulis : jurusan/kualifikasi pendidikan;
c. Daftar Riwayat Hidup;
d. Foto kopi ijazah dan transkrip nilai (IPK) yang telah dilegalisir ASLI oleh pejabat yang berwenang; (Surat Keterangan Kelulusan/Ijazah sementara tidak dapat diterima);
e. Pas Foto terakhir berwarna 3 X 4 Sebanyak 3 (tiga) lembar;
f. Surat kelakuan baik dan tidak pernah dihukum penjara (kurungan) yang dibuktikan dengan surat keterangan dari Kepolisian;
g. Foto kopi Akte Kelahiran yang dilegalisir oleh Pejabat yang berwenang;
h. Masing-masing berkas dimasukan dalam map :

launched pulled a 10%+ conversion rate, I'm not talking about
the results of a strong endorsement someone did for you. I'm
talking about an AVERAGE conversion rate from ALL the
traffic sources you point at your site.)

So why are you spending SO MUCH TIME to get that latest
project launched? What the heck are you waiting for?

Know this... everyday that goes by without you launching
your latest project is a day that you could be using to
test and IMPROVE upon what that project produces.

Yes, that means make you more money.

Your project will never be perfect. You could have always made
it better. You could have always done this or done that.

WRITE THIS DOWN...

"The biggest piece of crap ever created and launched online
makes more money than an almost-perfect project that
was never launched."

Is my point getting through to you?

The biggest mistake we entrepreneurs make is trying to
make our little projects PERFECT before we are willing
to launch them and see what they will do.

This can be the "kiss of death" for our businesses. Because
until we launch projects we don't get any RESULTS.

What you need to realize is that RESULTS are the biggest
ASSET to your online business. Even the CRAPPY RESULTS.

Because the results are what tells us what is working and
what isn't. And believe me, I've probably made MORE MONEY
from the results I discovered about things that weren't working,
so don't just think it's all about what works.

So learn to produce projects on an ACCELERATED launch
schedule. Just get the sucker to the quickest version that
will allow you to launch it and start getting ANY results at
all. Then spend your time IMPROVING on the results.

Let's face it. Many of our projects FLOP. It just happens.
People just won't buy enough of something to make it profitable.
So we must move on and work on another project. Get it out there
and see if that one starts making money. Repeating the
process again and again.

But think about what I just said and realize something. If you
KNOW the reality that many of your projects will fail, why the
heck are you taking so long to find out?

It's probably the same reason *I've* often delayed things... FEAR.

I'm AFRAID to see my "baby", my special project, fail. But since
we've already come to realize that the reality of business is
that some projects WILL FAIL, we just need to GET OVER IT.

Put that CRAP together and launch it! Unpolished. Unperfected.
Ugly. Yes, I say let the crap fly! (no, not that crap.)

So get your projects launched absolutely, without a doubt, as
quickly as possible. Get SOME results. Any results. THEN
work on improving whatever those results are to increase
your profits.

If you are planning on doing JVs with people for your new
product, or rolling out an affiliate program for it, the
"JOHN REESE CRAP METHOD"
(as I will call it) still definitely works.

Here's how you use it...

You put together your web site and product as quickly as
possible. Go jump on Google and buy some AdWords traffic
to point at the site. Start tracking the results -- no matter
what they are. Make changes and TEST them. Continuously
work to improve the results of the site.

When you're able to get the site to a satisfactory conversion
level, then and only then proceed with putting together JV
deals and really rolling out the product.

You know, the biggest kiss of death for an online marketer
can be to launch a product with JV partners WITHOUT having
first tested and improved a site's conversion. Do you think
your JV partners are going to promote your next project
if the initial one completely FLOPS and doesn't make them
any money? Absolutely not.

SO USE THE "JOHN REESE CRAP METHOD" AND PROFIT!

1. Create and launch crap.
2. Test that crap.
3. Improve that crap.
4. Make money with crap that eventually becomes non-crap.

Seriously. Don't laugh. This process works. Again and again.
It has made me rich.

Choosing the right Dial-Up or Broadband ISP

Before joining up with a dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP), there are a number of questions that should be asked first. Don't automatically go for the cheapest service first as it may cost you in the long run.

If you are planning on using the Internet as a business tool (e.g. to develop your website), then it's important to have a reliable ISP. Having a broadband connection isn't so important (but definitely nice if you can afford it), but having a dependable host is.

Below, I've outlined a list of the most important things to consider when you are choosing a service provider. If you already have an ISP (which is more than likely), you should consider changing services if you aren't happy with your existing service especially if you have received poor customer service or experience downtime and connection dropouts.

Local numbers - your ISP should ideally have local numbers in your area and /or a number of dedicated lines in the area in which you live for each customer to ensure that you will be able to connect without any problems.

POP Addresses - make sure you get at least 1 private POP email address, it's much more convenient than having to rely on internet mail (although that has it's advantages now that Yahoo and Google are both providing mail services with reasonable storage space). There are some free POP mail providers - I don't recommend any of them!

Storage space - shouldn't be a huge deciding factor when you are considering an ISP, but it is handy to be able to host a personal homepage and use an FTP service to back up important files that you might need from different locations. (Most ISP's will provide you with a small amount of storage space for free).

Unlimited access - in today's market, if you don't have unlimited access (especially with a dial up account), then you are paying too much. However, when choosing a broadband connection this should be a consideration. To work out how much bandwidth you need (in terms of downloads) it's a good idea to monitor your Internet usage for a month before switching to broadband, that way you'll have a good idea of the most appropriate DSL or broadband package (a lot of the time, these accounts are 'capped' and charge you extra of excess usage).

Technical Support - If you are proficient with Internet troubleshooting (I'm definitely no!), then shouldn't be a huge factor. It is important to have 24/7 technical support so you can minimise down time. If you aren't satisfied with your existing service then it may be worthwhile changing providers. I'm usually based in Australia , but when I'm in the States I've tried a number of services including AOL, a handful of local providers, and of course the freebies. Some of them have been good, but most of them have been pretty average.

AssociatePrograms.com - affiliate programs directory - thousands of associate or affiliate programs you can use to add revenue streams to your website, and an award-winning newsletter. Highly recommended.

Any Browser - find out what your website looks like on different screen sizes, and with different browser versions.

Internet Marketing Forums - get free answers to any question you like when you visit these web forums.

Free counters - track how many visitors are coming to your site, for free.

Alexa.com - find out the popularity of each site that you visit when you download the Alexa toolbar. This is an invaluable free resource that you must have if you are involved in Internet marketing. You can actually get an idea of how many visitors your competitor's site is getting.

Google toolbar - useful because you can search immediately at any time just by typing into the toolbar. Also you can get the approximate pagerank of any site by looking at the toolbar.

Eudora - this is a free email software program that has a number of advantages. It allows you to have multiple identities, so you can run multiple sites and emails from the same computer. It also allows you to have pre-formatted replies to common emails that you receive, saving you a lot of time. With the free version you will have to look at a small ad whilst you check your email.

Whois Database - find out who owns any particular website.

Free Sticky - free content for your website.

BUT THERE'S A MAJOR PROBLEM NOW...

Everyone is rushing to add audio to their sites. They are
recording all kinds of little messages that their web site
visitors can listen to. I've seen some crazy stuff already.

But here's a REALITY CHECK.

Most of it sucks.

Not many people have taken the time to THINK about the audio
they are going to put on their sites. People think you can just
put any audio on the site and it will instantly increase sales.

Umm... no.

Audio CAN be very powerful for your marketing. It CAN
increase your sales.

But it can also HURT your business if used incorrectly.
That's right, it can LOSE you business.

Don't just think because you add audio to your site that you
will start making more money. Unfortunately, it doesn't
work that way.

FIRST THINGS FIRST.

If you add ANY audio to your site, you need to split-test
the old version of your site and the new version with
the audio (regardless of what the first version of your audio
script sounds like.)

Unless you split-test your site you won't know which
version pulls better. You won't be able to tell if the audio
version FLOPPED. And believe me, I know for a fact
that some sites that have added audio are probably producing
MUCH WORSE since they added it.

So the first thing to keep in mind is you need to split-test
this just like ANY other change you'd make to your marketing.

The results will tell you if it improved your marketing or
made it worse. That's the beauty of direct marketing. The
results speak for themselves. It's all about Yes or No --
the "Maybe's" don't pay the rent.

CAREFULLY SCRIPT AND PLAN YOUR AUDIO *BEFORE*
YOU RECORD IT.

Before you go to record that audio file that you will add to your
site, you need to take some time and think about what you
are going to say.

Your audio should contain BENEFITS of whatever it is
you are marketing. The same rules apply with
copywriting.

Ideally, your audio should contain something that the
rest of your copy doesn't. Certainly, you can restate
some of the same benefits and points in your copy,
but ideally if you add some additional info it will make
it worth the prospect's time to listen to it.

TEST. TEST. TEST.

And just like everything else, test until it hurts. Test
different audio recordings. See how your prospects
react for each one. See which ones have a more positive
effect on your sales.

I just thought I would share a little "wisdom" with you
that I learned the "hard" way over the past 12 years
of running online businesses. Hopefully, some of you
will be able to benefit right away from what took me
YEARS to figure out and finally DO. It was the major
difference in finally finding big success online.

1. Have many Internet projects you are working on?
Have many ideas you are developing that you want to
make money with?

YOU'RE IN DEEP DOO-DOO AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IT.

One of the hardest lessons I had to learn was that
working on several projects at the same time was
literally the KISS OF DEATH for my online ventures. I
was under the impression that if I could create TEN
little online ventures that could each make a measily
$2,000/month, then when the day came that they were
all online I'd be making $20K/month.

Take it from me, that will NEVER happen.

I once had over 20 projects being developed at
the same time. I even had a TEAM of employees
at that time to do it. It still FAILED.

FOCUS. THAT'S THE SECRET TO MAX PROFITS.

Just as you cannot make a million dollars without
making just ONE DOLLAR first (there's no other way
around that order) you really can't succeed online
unless you work and FOCUS on just ONE PROJECT and work
on it until it's profitable. Then and only then should
you work on Project #2.

It's too easy for entrepreneurs like us to surf around
the Internet and see opportunity everywhere. It's too
easy to come up with yet another new "plan" to create
yet another little venture -- often sidetracking us
from our original project.

So stop working on multiple projects at the sametime
-- at least not until you have ONE project making you
enough money that you can sitback and relax and "play
around" with a 2nd and 3rd and 4th project. Until you
create just ONE project that is able to support your
lifestyle you have no reason to be working on other
projects. YES, many people will disagree with me, but
it's a FACT.

The way to succeed online is to FOCUS. It's better to
do one thing "great" than to do many things "fair". If
your primary project is just not growing to the size
you want it to to support your lifestyle, then you
should probably focus on another project instead. Pick
another market. Do some research. Don't be afraid to
try something else.

DON'T FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR PROJECTS.

If you give them an honest effort and they prove not
to be as profitable as you want, don't be afraid to
DUMP THEM. Online ventures are very inexpensive to
start. Don't be afraid to bail out on a failing
project and start another to focus on.

You'll make a lot more money by making one project as
best as you possibly can. Instead of spending your
time trying to get another project going, work on
GROWING your original project -- go out and get more
affiliates or test more advertising campaigns. THEN
work on creating a backend product that compliments
your initial product/service.

MILK YOUR MARKET.

Work on making your original project as big as possible.
When you can't do anymore, THEN considering starting a
second project.

2. Make Lists And Prioritize Based On One Thing -- PROFITS.

You should do "brain dumps" often. Pour everything in
your head onto paper. Get everything off your mind. We
all get a gazillion ideas everytime we surf around.
Don't clog your mind with these ideas, write them
down.

THEN RELAX AND STOP DWELLING ON THEM.

You don't need to let these ideas encompass your thoughts --
they are safe on paper or in a computer file you've created to
note them.

Make a list of "tasks" you need to work on for your
business. Write down every conceivable thing you'd
like to accomplish. Then prioritize this list from top
to bottom based on what will you make you the most
money or have the biggest impact on your bottom line.

It's funny how we often will spend a lot of time on
tasks that don't necessarily bring in new profits for
us. So work on those things that will most directly
affect your bottom line FIRST -- then work on the rest
of the list.

Also work with a better PRODUCTIVITY "BALANCE". Plan
to work 3-4 hours a day working only on some tasks on
your list. As Internet entrepreneurs it's too easy to
surf this site and other sites and PROCRASTINATE. The
Information Age makes it too easy to procrastinate --
because we can NEVER know everything there is to find
online, so we can surf INDEFINITELY.

Kill your web browser for a few hours a day if you
don't need it to accomplish the work you need to do.
Surf only when you've accomplished your day's tasks.
Same with email. Close your email client if you don't
need it.

(AND HERE COMES A "BIGGIE")

3. STOP TRYING TO COME UP WITH THE NEXT "BIG THING".
LET OTHER PEOPLE *SHOW YOU* WHAT'S MAKING MONEY.

For many years of my life as an entrepreneur I was
trying to come up with the next "Big Idea". I was
always trying to innovate. I was always trying to
invent something. I finally realized that it's much
easier to make money THE LAZY WAY.

Let other people do all the hard work for you. Let
other people figure out what people want to buy. Then
you can DIFFERENTIATE yourself and offer something
similar to the same market. No, don't copy off of
people. But create a product that compliments a
popular product/service. Not only have you created
something to offer to that same "hot" market, you have
also created something that makes for the perfect JV
for that original person that "showed you" the market.

Online, you can find out ANYTHING about any business.
Do some research and check out other successful people
online. Notice what kind of ad copy they use.
Subscribe to their ezines or autoresponder series. See
what they send you -- realize WHY. Buy your
competitors' products. See what they sell you on the
backend. Figure out HOW they are making money.

THEN EMULATE SUCCESS.

Stop trying to do things the HARD WAY. Keep an eye on
people that have already figured it out.

OBSERVE ADVERTISING

Check out the keywords for your market. Notice the
companies that are bidding for your keywords. Keep an
eye on these listings for at least a couple of weeks.
The companies that remain at the top are most likely
MAKING MONEY with that advertising or they wouldn't
keep paying for it (unless it's some Fortune 500
company just wasting money). Go to their site and see
WHAT they are selling. How much they are selling their
product for. What autoresponder series they might be
using. What their offer is. Buy their product. Figure
out their backend.

Do a little RESEARCH and you can find out the exact
"blueprint" for success in any market.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST...

4. Be proactive.

If you want more subscribers, go get them. If you want
to bring more traffic to your site, go find some
partners that can send it to you. If you want more
email subscribers, create more ways for people
to opt-in and take more advantage of the traffic you
already have.

Don't sit back and "hope" your business grows, MAKE IT
GROW. No matter what your goals are, you CAN make them
happen if you TAKE ACTION to make it happen.

This is your year to do it. Make it happen.

site? Selling online content via a password protected website has become
big business. Not only is it fast to set up (with the right tools), but
the start-up and running costs are minimal. Work from home entrepreneurs
and big businesses alike are lapping up this new found revenue source.

People are willing to pay for online content. In fact, the "Online
Publishers Association" revealed that pay-for content is emerging as a
hot revenue model. Business content, personals, match making, and
entertainment are the hottest niches. But even smaller niches, like DVD
authoring, sports coaching, marketing services, and dieting are
producing profits.

Internet users spend $300 Million in 4 Months for Online Content

U.S. consumer spending for online content in the first 4 months of 2002
was $300 million, a growth of 155% over the first quarter of 2001 (and
that’s post-September 11th). It’s apparent that online users will pay
for content on their passion or profession.

Subscribers are paying anywhere from $9.95 a month to $19.95, and in
some cases up to $200 a month – depending on the nature of the content.
Annual subscription renewals hold a solid 72%, giving site owners an
impressive recurring residual income. Renewals accounted for nearly half
of paid content sales in 2001.

A Rapidly Growing Market

Less than 9% of online users currently pay for online content. This
means the market is wide open for the savvy entrepreneur. Paying for
content in 2002 was more than 5 times what it was in 2001. That’s a
massive 500% growth! Those who capture the market first in their niche
will have the obvious advantage. It’s an international market, so anyone
can play.

Starting your own Membership Site

There are 4 key elements to starting a subscription based membership
site, says Ansel Gough, Editor of MembershipSiteAdvisor.com – an
Australian based membership site, teaching others how to start and run
membership sites.

Target the right market: Find a market that is passionate about a
subject, and then build your membership site around it. There are so
many topics to choose from. Doing a key word search will reveal what
people are searching for online. You can know before you even launch a

the same information elsewhere for free online. Your job is to search

Joint Venture Marketing, Ezines (online newsletters), affiliate
programs, and viral marketing (accelerated word of mouth marketing).
Add tools or services: To enhance your membership site try including
simple software, tools, ebooks, resources, etc. as a give-away. These
can usually be found for free or at a very low cost online.
"Marrying services, resources or tools with content can dramatically
boost your subscription rates," Gough says. "However it’s best to
include something that doesn’t take up your time. Giving people a reason
to return to your members only area is critical – tools, resources,
discussion forums and quality content will do that!

"The exciting thing is, you can take your hobby, specialized knowledge
or profession and turn it into a profitable membership site. Your
challenge will be finding exclusive content. You can start it part time
– something I did myself, while working a full time job. As your
subscriptions increase you can plan on full time involvement in your
area of interest."

Starting and running a membership site can be a lot of fun and very
fulfilling, however you need to know what’s involved in setting one up,
and then managing it effectively. Planning and allowing for
auto-responders, automated sign-ups, credit card processing, automated
cancellations, etc is all part of a successful membership website.

How to find websites that are making lots of money

If you find a website that is making $10,000 per month, it's pretty easy for you to make a similar site that makes $2,000 per month

You can't copy these websites, because you will be violating copyright, and you will get into a lot of trouble ... but there may not be anything stopping you from copying the idea that is making the money.

I keep getting emails from people asking me to show them the address of some of my websites, so they can have a look, and see how I am earning my money.

I'm not going to tell you ... sorry ... because then I will end up with hundreds of people copying my sites. But I will tell you how to find hundreds of websites just like mine that are making $1,000 to $10,000 per month per site, and in some cases a lot more.

So how do you find these profitable sites?

We are talking about affiliate sites here. Not people that have their own product, but people who are selling other products through affiliate programs on the web. There is a simple way to find these profitable sites. Think about it. If people can afford to pay a lot of money in advertising, then they must be making a lot of money with their site. So, what you need to do is to find an affiliate site that is paying lots of money in advertising. One way to do this is to go to Overture.

Let's look at an example
Please note that I don't want to get into trouble by mentioning any specific sites, so I'm just going to explain how to find the sites.

Go to Overture and do a search for web hosting. At the time of writing this article the top bid for web hosting is $5.60 per click. Now most of the people bidding on overture are actually web hosts. They are NOT affiliates. We don't want to look at them. We want to look at affiliates. These are going to be sites that compare various hosting providers. At the time of writing this article there is a bid for $3.12 for a web hosting comparison site, in 13th place in Overture. This site is probably making a lot of money if they can afford to bid $3.12 per visitor.

Let's look at some more examples:

Do a search for "long distance". Right now when I look at the results the top bid is for a company that compares long distance providers to find the lowest rate. This site is essentially an affiliate site ... they are a very big site, but they are making a lot of money comparing other services. They are bidding $2.04 for every visitor to the site. That's a lot of money to pay for one visitor.

One more example. This example is using one of the most profitable affiliate programs on the web, online casinos. Don't read this example if you morally object to casinos - I am only using it as an example, because it is a very good example of how much an affiliate site can make in profits. Do a search for casino on overture. The top bid at this time for casino is $7.31. This bid is for an affiliate site. This site compares the various casinos. They are paying $7.31 for every visitor to their site. Does this give you an idea of how much money they are making? If they can afford to pay $7.31 per visitor, we can assume that they are making at least this much in profits for each visitor. That's a huge profit per visitor.

Now, you don't want to pay $7.31 per visitor to your site - DON'T DO IT ... even if you do have a casino site. However, with this you can see how people are earning large profits from their web sites, and you can get an idea of which ideas are the most profitable. Then, use the ideas on this site, such as the page on getting clicks for 5 cents on google and overture, to get visitors much more cheaply, or even for free. That's how you can build a highly profitable affiliate site.

It's a designer's package, with the promotional website offering a walk-though tour emphasising the products place in the overall design, and the platforms required to tweak it. You download the template, edit in the program of your choice and upload the pages, then add your products via an online admin service. It seems a little clumsy for people who want an efficient generic system, especially considering the graphics have to be edited in Fireworks. There's the standard features, plus templates that have been designed for specific regions, which is a plus considering the regular default to US shipping and tax calculations. Autopilotriches - This is essentially exactly the same as Professional Cart Solutions, just under a different brand name. However the website presents the software and the service as a marketing tool, using marketing psychology and flow charts to prove the role that Autopilot Riches can play in your marketing stratagem. There's a big emphasis on cross-selling and up-selling, advertising and affiliate programs. A notable feature is the Autoresponder, a database collator based on a questionnaire offered to potential and actual clients. There's also a client management database and advertising tracking software. Aimed at e-merchants who want to implement marketing theories and bulk-up client databases.

Pay per click search engines are a great way to generate traffic. The problem is that most of the good keywords cost 50 cents or more. Here's how you can get traffic for much less

If you want to get the maximum number of visitors, then you should implement all three strategies.

This page assumes that you understand the basics of how pay-per-click advertising works, and that you understand how Google and Overture work. If you need more information on the basics go to this page on pay per click search engines.

How to get 5 cent visitors from Google

Ok, so let's start with Google. Remember that the system for Google is totally different to Overture. We are dealing with Overture and Google on this page because they are the ones that are going to drive the majority of traffic for you. It is actually much easier to get clicks for 5 cents or even lower at other pay per click search engines, but it is difficult to get very many clicks. So basically the secret for Google is to do proper research for your keywords and find every combination of keywords that you can think of. For more information on keyword research click here.

Let's say for example that you have a site that sells wine. At the time of writing, the minimum bid on Google for "wine shop" is 57 cents and the minimum bid for "buy wine" is 35 cents. And that's just the minimum which will likely put you at the bottom of the list of 8 advertisements and get you very few clicks.

Instead, have a look at these combinations of keywords:

wine sales
wine stores
wine sale
purchase wine
discount wine
wine price
wine cheap
wine shops
order wine
wine on line
wine prices
wine club
wine cheapest

All of the above keyword combinations are available for five cents. (Although they might not last long at that price if some wine sites are reading this article!)

It doesn't matter what business you are in, there are some keywords or keyword combinations that other people have missed. I have even managed to get clicks for web hosting traffic at 5 cents per click, which is probably the most difficult area to get web traffic for.

The secret is in coming up with lots of keywords and combinations of keywords. Here are a few more ideas:

Try the pleural versions of the keyword.
Try different verb forms - make, making etc.
Try combining two keywords into one word without
spaces, for example instead of buy car try buycar
Use misspelt words

Getting clicks for 5 cents on Overture

With Overture you need a slightly different system of getting the low cost per click keywords. Basically for Overture you can only use keyword phrases that appear in the search suggestion tool. (Click on the link Search Suggestion Tool).

For example if you have a site on Bonsai trees, when you put in the word Bonsai into the search suggestion tool, it give you the following results:

42453 bonsai
13770 bonsai tree
2823 bonsai kitten
2169 bonsai plant
1356 bonsai care

and so on ...

To get clicks for 5 cents, make sure that you bid for every phrase that applies to your site. That probably won't get you in the top 3 listings which is the best pace to be. However, even if the top bid is 60 cents, and you are listed as number 35 you will still get some clicks just from the Overture search engine itself. And for keyword phrases that are right down the list, you will often be able to get a number 1, 2 or 3 listing for 5 cents.

It is essential that you accept credit cards through a secure server on your site. Around 90% of website sales are made through credit cards. If you don't accept them, you are missing out on 90% of your customers.

There are a few ways you can do it. The easiest method is to go through third party payment processors.

With a third party processor, you do not need to handle any of the payments. It is all done by a 3rd party company. You pay only when you make sales. The advantage of this is that it very quick to set up and has very low set-up costs. Also some businesses might find it difficult to set up a merchant account, so this give everyone a chance to accept payments even if they are not able to set up their own account.

Clickbank - this is a good option for software and information products. (They do not handle payments for physical goods). The advantage of using clickbank is that they have an army of affiliates that can sell you information product for you. Clickbank can handle your affiliate program for you. So although you are paying higher fees for the merchant processing, you need to recognize that they are also helping to sell your product, recruit affiliates etc.

Why sending 2 million emails doesn't work

But, if you do it right, you can make $40,625 with one simple email campaign

Did you get some junk email tody? Did you read it? Unlikely.

Some people who send out bulk emails are raking it in ... making thousands of dollars of profits. But, if you do it wrong, you will end up getting your name put on a spam list, you website can down, your companies reputation goes to the rubbish heap ... and that's if you're lucky.

But can't I just send 2 million emails?

No, it doesn't work. Look at this:

Send 2 million untargeted emails

Only 1 in 50 read it = 40,000 people
Only 1 in 200 people want that sort of product = 200 people
Only 1 in 200 will trust a spammer to buy = 1 sale Yipee!!

Are you excited? I don't think so.

But what happens when you send out targeted emails, to people who requested to be contacted about your sort of product or service:

Send 100,000 targeted emails

1 in 2 read it = 50,000 people
1 in 2 want that sort of product = 25,000 people
1 in 40 buy your product = 625 sales!!

If your profit per sale is $65 that equals $40,625 in profits.

So how can you make LOTS of sales with bulk emails?

Firstly DO NOT send out millions of spam emails, to untargeted people. It doesn't work, it's illegal in the USA, and your ISP can ban your site.

But even if you don't care that it is illegal, the bottom line is that it DOESN'T WORK.

So what works to make you lots of sales?

There are two things that you need to do to be successful:

1. You MUST find a targeted list of people who have agreed to be contacted.

2. You MUST send out individualised emails, preferably in a way that makes the person think that you are writing it just for him/her.

How do you send targeted emails?

Firstly you need the database of email contacts, of people who have agreed to be contacted by you. In the database you need names, email addresses, You need to have software which can generate the individualised emails.

For example, let's say you've got in your data base information on the person's: name, email and city that they live in. Your email could say:

"Hi, Alan. I noticed that you live in New York, and just thought that you might be interested in ..."

The best software I've found for doing all of this is Aweber. This software can send out hundreds of individualized emails, but it can also do things like setting up a newsletter, or autoresponding to requests etc.

Now let's look at some more ways to make sure you get great results from your email campaign

So who should you email to? Well remember firstly that you should email only to people who have agreed to be contacted. There are two reasons for this. One is that it is illegal to do it any other way. The other reason is that when people receive unrequested spam emails, they are very unlikely to respond.

Start with your customers

Your customers are your best prospects. If they have bought from you before then they are the best prospects to buy from you again. If you are not collecting the email addresses of your customers, then you are crazy! You have a certain level of trust with your customers and so it is crucial to have ongoing contact with your customers.

Test with a small number of people first

Don't send out 100,000 emails without first testing to a small number, say 1,000 to 5,000 emails to make sure that your offer is going to work and that people will buy.

Ezines that target to your market

Ezines are a great way to market your product, because people are much more likely to read them, and therefore there is a bigger chance that they will buy. For more information on ezine marketing click here.

Joint venture with a non-competing business

If you can joint venture with a business that is not directly competing with yours, that can be a great strategy. What you do is to approach a company that has a large list of customers or they might have an ezine in your industry. See if they would like to promote your product, and in return receive a fixed fee or a percentage of the goods that are sold.

If they have an ezine you can even offer to write articles for the ezine and get your advertisement effectively for free.

Purchasing lists

This is an expensive option, but it can work. You can purchase lists of qualified buyers from a list broker. To find a list broker look at the Yahoo listing here.

Remember to make the emails persalized

This is crucial. If you send out an email with the persons name, they will probably realize that it was autogenerated (unless you do it very well), but even still you will get up to a 6 times increased response from this approach. If you don't have software for doing this, then look at getting software such as Mailloop to do it for you.

second, you are wasting precious online
real estate.

In other words, you are not taking advantage
of every "place" in your online marketing
that you could be using to make you money.

The biggest one many people (including myself)
often overlook:

The "Thank You" page.

Do you realize the "Thank You" page (the
page you display after someone submits an
opt-in form or even an order form) is some of
the most RESPONSIVE real estate on your site?

You should be using your "Thank You" pages
to promote some of your other products, other
opt-in lists, or affiliate products.

One of the easiest ways to INSTANTLY make
more money is to use an opt-in "Thank You"
page to simply say:

"Thank you for subscribing. You will receive
your first issue very soon."

Then under that text you can say,
"We Highly Recommend This Product..."

Then you can list information about an affiliate
product that is related to your market. This is
an easy way to send traffic to an affiliate link
so you can earn some additional income that
you didn't already have. I.e. FREE MONEY. :-)

You can do the same thing for your ORDER FORM
"Thank You" pages. Thank the customer for their
order and recommend they check out a related
product. In fact, this real estate on your site
will be the most responsive of all for other offers.

After all, that web site visitor just became the
most qualified prospect of all -- A PAYING CUSTOMER.

You know, most marketers are AFRAID to send
additional offers to their customers. But why?

Well, the thinking is simple...

"I don't want to piss them off by trying to 'pitch'
them other products."

We have all thought this way. *I* am guilty of
this myself. But you know what? We all need
to GET OVER IT.

Everyone needs to realize something -- people
buy MULTIPLE PRODUCTS when they are interested
in something. So why shouldn't *YOU* get paid when
they do?

When is the last time you went to the bookstore
to buy a book or magazine on an interest that you had
and you left the store with only ONE COPY of something?

That's right, you probably bought more than one on almost
every occasion you can think of. Customers are the
same way. So don't be afraid to send offers to your
customers.

This is a FACT: the more offers you send to your
customers, the more money you will make.

Start displaying related offers on your order form "Thank You"
pages and you'll instantly boost your income.

I did this recently on ONE of my sites and it added
an additional $3,500/month in net income. I simply took
an order form "Thank You" page that had only said,
"Thank you for your order." (and some other minor stuff)
and added a promotion for a "Recommended" product.
This was an affiliate product that I earned a commission
on when my customers visited the link and then made
a purchase.

Here's something else for you to understand...

When people are ordering from you, their TRUST and
RESPECT for you is at an all-time high. If you "recommend"
another product for them to buy at this time (right after they
placed an order with you), not only will they trust your
recommendation (by the way, make sure it's a solid product
you are recommending) but they are also still in the "buying
mood" and will be more likely to buy something else at
that moment.

After making this minor modification to one of my
own "Thank You" pages, I am now making this additional
income day after day. All I did was make use of some
precious online real estate that I was overlooking --
i.e. WASTING.

So take a closer look at your web site and marketing
process and find places that you are not effectively
using to promote your other products or affiliate products.

I'd be willing to bet that there's some "unused" online
real estate you can go take advantage of right now that
would allow you to INSTANTLY make more money from
the same traffic you are already receiving.

So what are you waiting for? Stop reading this email
and go put up an offer on that unused space. Yes, NOW.

How to Structure A Follow Up Series

Marketers the world over use follow up autoresponders to increase sales. But, many struggle to write a compelling message series. Don't let that keep you from your share of the profits! Print and follow these instructions; you'll soon be following up with finesse.

(Examples in this article use the fictional product "Green Garden Lawn Fertilizer". Any similarity to actual products is unintended and coincidental.)

Message 1 - Big Benefits:

Many of the sales resulting from your follow up series will come after the very first message. Keep this message short. Just take 500 or so words to flesh out a handful of your biggest benefits. For example, part of the Green Garden Lawn Fertilizer company's first message might read:

" A Lush Lawn: Green Garden Fertilizer will give you a lush lawn in just 2 weeks! Density will increase up to 50%..."
" No More Brown: Watch your lawn become 3-5 shades greener with regular treatments"

Message 2 - Establish a Need:

Use your second message to explain why your product is necessary. First, lay out the situation leading to a need for your product. Then, show that your product will meet that need. For instance:

"Lawns across the country are looking dull. Homeowners water and mow to no avail. But, not those who use Green Garden Fertilizer! They've created lush, beautiful lawns"

Message 3 - Tool Talk:

In your third message, show the lead how he will go about actually using your product. Detail any tools or supporting material that you offer. In the case of our fictional Green Garden Fertilizer, part of this message might read:

"This treatment is a cinch: Simply attach the included diffuser to the end of your garden hose, creating a sprinkler. Run the sprinkler for 15 minutes each week. You will see an improvement after just one treatment!"

Message 4 - The Wildcard:

Customize message four for your unique product. Try one of these ideas:

Have a customer case study? This is a great place for it.
Selling complimentary products? Detail one of them here.
Selling a real-world product? Explain shipping / tracking now.
Have a bricks and mortar office? Invite the prospect to visit. Include directions.
Are you personally a visible part of your brand? Include your bio here.

Message 5 - Questions? Comments?:

Your lead may be waiting to purchase until you explain one particular thing. By asking outright, you can speed the sales cycle to a close.
Start the fifth message by asking your prospect if he has any questions. Give him several ways to reach you, and include your hours of operation and time zone.

Take the rest of the fifth message to answer some of the questions your prospects ask most often. For instance:

"Are you excited about the lush lawn you'll have with Green Garden Fertilizer? I hope so! Let me go over some questions our customers have asked in the past"

Message 6 - Testimonials:

With your sixth message, show off your satisfied customers. Choose several of your best testimonials, and list them here. Look for quotes from customers who are obviously excited about your product, but that still sound believable. For instance, choose:

"I'm thrilled with my Green Garden Fertilizer! Just two weeks, and my lawn looks better than it has in years."
Instead of:

"Green Garden Fertilizer is miraculous! It turned my back lot into a rolling meadow in days - and that lot is PAVED!"
(The testimonials in this article are made up examples. All of your testimonials, however, must be real. Fabricating testimonials is illegal.)

Message 7 - Last Chance:

Your final message serves as one last reminder of your product. Briefly reiterate its most impressive features. Then, throw in a few testimonials or a very short case study. Round out this message with your contact information. Our example product's final message might read:

"Over the past several weeks, you've heard about how Green Garden Fertilizer can turn your lawn around. Customer Dusty Dan tried it, and he says, 'My lawn has never looked better...'"

Follow Up With Finesse

Automation means that good follow up doesn't have to be time consuming. Now, creating a message series is just as easy!

Pull the Reader in

First, convince your audience that your text is worth reading. Make your first sentence or two very interesting: Make a bold statement, say something seemingly ridiculous, or appeal to your prospect's emotional side. Later, tie this grabber in with the rest of your copy. For instance:

Introduce the Product

What is the product you're advertising? What does it do? Directly after your grabber, give a compact explanation of your product. Keep this explanation short, while still being very clear. For example:

"Green Garden Lawn Fertilizer is taking the landscaping industry by storm. What else can give you the lawn of your dreams in just 15 minutes a day?"

Explain the Product's Significance

What will it do for me? This is the time for details - make this section long and rich. Suggest a variety of product uses, and give examples. Make the most of this opportunity to directly target your unique audience! Clearly explain how your readers will benefit from your product.

Tell the Reader to Make a Purchase

You've come so far - you've laid out exactly what the product is and how it will help your unique audience. Now, seal the deal - tell your readers to purchase the product!
This step may sound strange, but it's necessary. Often, people hear about a product and are genuinely interested, but fail to actually make a purchase. A clear call to a simple action cuts down on buyer ambivalence. Don't be pushy - just change your verb tenses to the imperative. Instead of:

"If you think that you fit this profile, you might want to think about buying Green Garden Lawn Fertilizer."
Say:

"Click here to order Green Garden Lawn Fertilizer today."

An Eye for Continuity

More and more opt-in e-mail is being sent around the Internet. Remind your prospect that he requested your messages by keeping an eye on continuity.
Start and end each message in a similar way. At the top, let your prospect know who you are, why he is getting e-mail from you, and where he is in the follow up sequence. This can be as simple as saying:

"Last week, you requested more information about Green Garden Fertilizer..."
Then, end each message with your own contact information. Use your autoresponder's personalization features to list details about your lead. Also, include a way for the lead to unsubscribe. For example:

"This message was sent to Dusty Dan at dustydan@needsanewlawn.com. On April 5th, Dusty Dan requested information about Green Garden Fertilizer. Questions? Call us at 000-000-0000. Or, to unsubscribe, click here."

You might not know this, but most of the people who I get to come to my websites is through pay per click advertising. The great advantage of this is that you can get people straight away. You see results almost immediately (well it takes a few minutes to set up your accounts, and can take a couple of days to approve your listings). This is how I managed to go from no visitors to making $8340 per month from lots of visitors in just my third month on the Internet.

What is pay per click advertising?

You might not realize that many of the search results are paid for. If you have your site listed in a pay per click search engine, then whenever a visitor clicks on the link to go to your site, you must pay something to the search engine. This can vary from 1 cent all the way up to $15 just for one click! But don't worry. You can control how much you pay for each click. If you set it at 5 cents, you will never pay more than 5 cents.

For example, let's say you have a site that sells hair dressing equipment. You might want people to see your site when they search for "hair dressing salons". You can bid on a pay per click search engine so that your site is displayed for this search term.

The biggest pay per click search engine is Overture. The way Overture works is that you bid for a search term, and the people who make the highest bids get to display their site first in the search engine. The reason why Overture is the biggest is because the top 3 results for each search term are displayed for everyone who searches on Yahoo, Info Space, Altavista and MSN as well as quite a few other large search engines. This means that a lot of people will see your site.

The best thing to do is to sign up for an account with Overture and start bidding on different keywords. If you click below and sign up from the link below, you will get extra credit towards your account. You will not get this credit if you sign up directly from the Overture page.

Get Listed With Overture

There are also many other smaller pay per click sites. The advantage of these smaller pay per click search engines is that they usually cost a lot less to get the top spot. (Overture can cost quite a lot to get the top spot). The best of the smaller ones are listed below. These will get you a reasonable amount of traffic (not as much as Overture), but the traffic will usually cost quite a bit less.

The ones I tend to use are:

Lycos, Looklistings, FindWhat and Pageseeker.

Others you might want to consider are:

7Search - results appear in over 35% of the top 150 search engines.
Ah-ha - gets 15 million searches per day, and much less expensive than Overture.
MIVA - this is the best search engine to use for getting traffic to sites in the UK.

Ok, so how do I use these pay per click search engines to get lots of traffic?

Well, the first thing you need to do is to research the keywords that you will need to focus on. This is crucial. You need to know what people actually type into the search engines. To find out more about keyword research click here.

Next, you need to bid for the keywords that you want, on the various pay per click search engines. One problem you might encounter is that some of the pay per click search engines have high prices for the keywords you want. That is why you must know two crucial things:

1. How much money you make for every visitor you get to the site.
2. What are all of the keywords that a person might search for to find your product.

If you have a large list of keywords, then you will find some which only cost you small amounts - 5 to 10 cents - per visitor. And, if you have a great product, then should be making at least 30 cents for every visitor to your site. Also if you keep the email addresses of your visitors, then you will keep making money again and again, because you can email them with follow up offers (only if you have their prior permission of course, otherwise it is spam which is definitely not a good way to go).

Using Autoresponders

Autoresponders are a great way to market a product or service. It is proven that most customers do not buy on your first contact with them. You need to keep contacting them in a gentle, persuasive way.

An autoresponder automatically responds to email with one or more prewritten messages. This means you can send personalised information (and follow up messages) about your product or service to a mailing list without lifting a finger.... well, you still have to type the messages.

As soon as a visitor to your site fills in their name and email address, their copy of your free report is automatically sent to them via autoresponder and should arrive at their inbox within seconds.

A good autoresponder system will work automatically all of the time. It's a much more effective way to communicate with your audience because your message is delivered only to people who have requested it. Think about all the time you will save by not having to repeatedly answer the same questions or having to send out the same information over and over. There are two ways you can do this:

Method 1 - offer an incentive

If your product has an affiliate program, then you simply suggest that they promote your affiliate program on their site, and they will be able to get a commission for each sale for people coming from their site. Alternatively you can advertise on their site and pay a fixed fee.

Another type of incentive is to offer your product for free, or offer free advertising for their site on your site. There are several alternative ways to do this.

Method 2 - get the links for free

A great way to do this is to the following:

Firstly, look at the site and carefully determine if your product or site fits with the topic of their site. If it does, look for the best place for them to have a link to your site. Then, put a link to their site on your site - do this before they even put a link to your site.

Next you need to email them. Tell the site owner that you have put a link to their site (show them the page where you have put a link, and make sure it is a quality link). Then tell the owner why it will benefit their visitors to have a link to your site. Lastly, give an example of exactly where you suggest the link should be on their site, and an example of the wording that they could use. This make it really easy for them to link to you.

The potential problem with method 2 is that it can take a lot of time to find the best sites to link to you. There is some software which can do it for you which is the Internet Success Spider as mentioned above.

Before you even start doing all of this you should check and see how many links are already pointing to your site. This information is available at Market Leap.

Other things that will dramatically increase your chances of getting "linked to"

Here are some other important things you can do:

1. Try faxing or phoning Website owners. Faxes receive a lot more attention than emails.
2. Make sure that your email (or fax) is individualized, and states the benefits for their site and their visitors.
3. Make sure that your site has good quality content that people are going to want to link to.
4. Make the email (or fax) personal. Use the webmaster's name if you can find it.
5. If the webmaster doesn't respond to your first email, try emailing again a week later as a gentle reminder. This can often work well.
6. Use a database to keep track of who you have emailed and their responses.
7. Create a template email that you can use to save time BUT don't send the same email to everyone, make sure that you individualize.
8. If you are sending out lots of emails you can use an emailing program such as Mailloop to individualize each email.

Ezines can give you very targeted visitors which means they buy more of your product

If you advertise in the right ezines, you can get fantastic results. However the results will vary a lot depending on the quality of the ezine. What you want is an ezine that people actually read. A quality ezine that delivers valuable content to the reader. And, you want the ezine to be targeted to the same or similar niche as the people who buy your product.

If you get these two things right, then ezine marketing can work very well for you.

There are a few tricks, however, that can massively change the response to your ad.

Simple changes that can give you an 8-12 times increase in the response to your ezine ad

Here are some things you can do to increase the response:

1. Make sure that the ezine has only 2-3 ads per issue. If it has dozens of ads, yours will get lost, and is unlikely to be read.

2. If you can, ask the editor to mention your product or review your product in their newsletter. This will massively increase your sales because it will not "seem" like an advertisement, and instead will look like a recommendation. The editor may not be willing to do this, but if you have a good product, perhaps even giving it for free to the editor to try, they may be willing to do it.

3. Another way to do this is to offer to write an article for the ezine, that happens to mention your product. This way you may even be able to 'advertise' in the ezine for free!

4. Make sure you test first with a small number of people. If the ezine you have selected has 50,000 subscribers, ask if you can send your ad to 1-2,000 subscribers first, and then if it works send it to the whole lot. Or even better, try 3 or 4 different ads and send them out to 2,000 subscribers for each ad and track the results. Then use the best performing ad for the whole group.

5. If you can, get the ad at the top of the ezine, as it is likely to have a much better response because more people will see it and read it.

What is the best ezine to advertise in?

You need to make sure that the ezine is good quality and that people actually read it. A good idea is to read the back issues, and subscribe to the ezine yourself. Would you read it if it came into your inbox? If not, forget about it.

You also need information such as the number of subscribers, whether the ezine accepts articles, what the cost is for advertising. There is no great free site that I am aware of with this information. You can pay for the info by getting the Directory of Ezines.

And if that's not enough, it's going to be such a hassle
to get around spam laws, filters, and other nuisances.

Well...

Do you want to know what *I'm* planning on doing?

I'M PREPARING TO MAKE MORE MONEY THAN
EVER FROM EMAIL MARKETING.

But let's get something straight! Blogs are *NOT* going to
replace Email marketing. It's not gonna happen.

I do think blogs ARE a great publishing tool for increased
exposure and can improve someone's marketing, but
Email marketing still has many major advantages.

Without going into a long tirade about why Email marketing
is the ultimate marketing tool, I'll just put it like this...

If your marketing message can be delivered to the same
place that a personal note from Grandma is, it's more
effective than any alternative. I'll just leave it at that.

So again, blogs aren't going to replace Email marketing, but
they are a great *additional* marketing tool to use. Heck,
I'll probably end up with a little blog for MarketingSecrets.com
sometime soon. Anything that brings you more exposure
(i.e. more prospects) is a "good" thing.

But back to Email marketing...

As it becomes harder and harder to use Email marketing
it represents a fantastic opportunity for marketers willing
to put in the extra WORK.

Gee, what a novel approach. The more WORK you do,
the more money you make.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the people making the big
bucks online are some of the hardest working folks around.

That "work" usually translates into DIFFERENTIATION. Being
different from other marketers and competitors to separate
themselves from all the "noise" online.

But most people aren't willing to do the extra work, and so
those that are end up making more money as a result.

Email marketing is going to be the exact same way.

Aside from having to comply with legislation (i.e. most likely
using double opt-in methods and keeping detailed records
of all subscriptions) and getting around spam filters, the
biggest challenge will be getting the opt-in.

Opt-in rates have been on a steady decline and it's no surprise
as to why. People are just overloaded with email. In order
to get someone to opt-in to YOUR list, it's going to come
down to the OFFER -- the backbone of selling.

The Opt-in itself has evolved a lot in the past 14 years that
I've been marketing online. You used to be able to put up
a simple form that just said, "Get my newsletter" with no
other description and people would opt-in by the truckload.

It's not that easy anymore -- and it's only going to get worse.

So how do you adapt? It's easy...

SELL THE OPT-IN.

Now I don't mean "sell" as in charge money for it. I mean
"sell" in relation to salesmanship and marketing. You need
to make your opt-in a compelling OFFER.

It's going to become so hard to get people to freely opt-in
to your list or autoresponder course that you will really have
to WORK to get them to do it.

But before I go any further, I will say this. THE WORK WILL
REALLY PAY OFF. Mark my words. Marketers that ARE
able to successfully continue using Email marketing will
CLEAN UP in the near future and beyond.

(Because most marketers will stop using Email marketing
because of all the work involved.)

So What's The Best Way To Get An Opt-In?

It's simple. It's called a SALES LETTER.

And, YES, I'm being serious.

Now, this sales letter doesn't have to be very long, but all
the powerful elements of a typical sales letter need to be there:

1. A compelling benefit-driven headline.
2. Some descriptive text.
3. Intriguing bullets.
4. Testimonials.
5. An implied value.
6. A "bribe" or gift for taking the call to action. (Opting in.)

Now all of this seems like a lot of work. And it is, initially.
But once you create this page it will work by itself.

Again and again and again.

This page only has to be a couple scrollable pages in length.
You can create a very short version of this that will be very
effective.

So you will have a benefit-drive headline that is related to
WHAT THE HECK THEY WILL GET OUT OF joining your
list.

Then you will briefly describe why they should get it
and also use several bullets to illustrate this.

You should use a few testimonials from other happy subscribers.

You need to give it an implied value. You can do this by
saying, "This course is a $97 value."

Then the most important part of all -- A BRIBE. Offer a free
bonus gift if they opt-in right now.

You might be reading this thinking I'm off my rocker. I can assure
you, I'm not. In fact, I've been using this exact opt-in model
with several of my projects (non-marketing related) for nearly
two years now. This *IS* the future of the opt-in. Mark my words.

And here's some else...

You'll also find, like I have, that the more 'effort' it takes your
prospect to opt-in (such as reading a little sales letter) the
more RESPONSIVE they will be to offers from you. It's a FACT
and I have several years of data to back it up. But the reason
for this is simple -- they are more qualified by the time they
join your list.

Here's How You Should Be Positioning Your Marketing...

Right now you are probably using pop-up or pop-over boxes
to capture opt-ins -- whether on entry or on exit. You might
also be using a little opt-in form mixed in with content on
some of your web pages. CONTINUE to use them to collect
opt-ins. Keep using them until the opt-in rate drops so badly
that it isn't worth wasting that precious online real estate
on your site.

But while you continue using these methods, and looking into
the future, you NEED to also setup a SEPARATE PAGE for
each opt-in list you're building using the "mini sales letter"
model I have described above.

On all your opt-in boxes that you are currently using you can
have links such as "Click here to learn more..." or "Click here
to learn how to get a $197 gift today..." etc. etc. And those
links will go to this new sales letter opt-in page -- because that
page WILL "close" (i.e.get them to opt-in) some people that
would not have joined from the small opt-in form you are currently
using.

Here's another tip. Register a domain name specifically for
your list. When you send messages to your list, your "From"
address, unsub URLs, and everything else mentioned in those
emails will promote this domain name. If a subscriber ever
wonders what list they are on or why, they can always go
to that domain name. And what will they find when they get
there? The mini sales letter that sold them the opt-in. This
will reinforce their decision to KEEP their subscription.

So don't run and hide from all the Email marketing challenges
that are appearing. EMBRACE THEM AND PROFIT.

I have really enjoyed helping other entrepreneurs, and I
will continue to teach people how to succeed online -- which
is why I started MarketingSecrets.com.

Here are a few things that I recently shared in my first
ever formal seminar presentation:

1. All of your marketing online must be designed for
IDIOTS.

A lot of people laughed when I showed them a slide saying
how the "secret" demographic for Internet Marketing success
was that 98% of people online were idiots. But it's the truth.

In order to achive maximum RESULTS you must design
your marketing so a complete idiot will know EXACTLY what
you want them to do.

Don't create pages with a bunch of OPTIONS for people
to take. Give people 1 or 2 options. Period. The more
options, links, buttons, etc. you give people, the more
likely you are to not have prospects take the desired
actions you want them to take.

Internet Marketing success (just like Direct Marketing)
is all about one thing -- RESULTS. Nothing else matters.

So your task is to get your prospects to do what you
want them to -- click a certain link, download a particular
file, or get them to submit a form -- like an optin form,
or an order form, or a survey.

But in order to get the MAXIMUM number of prospects
to take that "call to action" that you want them to take,
you must make it BRAIN DEAD SIMPLE. If you do,
you'll get more people opt-ing in. And, oh yeah, you'll
also get more orders.

Now I know what you're thinking...

"John, this is common sense."

Yes, it is. But you know what? 99% of marketers
online are currently using marketing that's too complicated.

They are also trying to use too much GUESSWORK
to run their businesses. Which leads me to something
else I shared...

2. The *Real* Internet Profit Formula is this:

Part 1: YES or NO
Part 2: MORE or LESS

That's it. Game. Set. Match. That's the entire formula
for Internet Marketing success.

I know you probably want to be told it's some other "magical"
formula that's more complicated, but it's not. That's *THE*
actual formula to make as much money online as you want.

Here's how it works...

Every "call to action" you want a prospect to take
(such as clicking a link, downloading a file, or submitting
a form) must be tracked. The result of that tracking
everytime will be YES or NO. "X" number of people
did take that call to action, and the rest did not.

If you take the total number of unique "YES" calls to action,
and you divide them by the total number of unique visitors
to the web page where the call to action was you get
a CONVERSION RATIO.

For example, if 100 people visit a web page where
you have an opt-in form, and 10 people opt-in,
your "conversion ratio" for that opt-in form is
10% (10/100).

Got it?

Then here's Part 2 of the process...

Now you create a slightly modified version
of the web page where that opt-in form is
(maybe you giveaway a different bonus if
people opt-in, or call your ezine something
else as a test, or use different colors on
the page, etc.) and you run a SPLIT-TEST.

A split-test is simply where you will take your
web site traffic and equally distribute them
to two different web pages -- like the two
opt-in pages, in this example. One is
your original page, the second is the
slightly modified version. It's basically
like sending "every other" visitor to the
other page. (I'll explain HOW to do all
of this in a moment.)

You will track the results on each of these
pages separately. When the results are
in, and you calculate the "conversion ratio"
for each, you will have a WINNER.

One of the pages will create MORE results ("YES"s)
and the other page will create LESS.

You simply now start using the page that
created MORE and you'll want to now test
another version in a split-test against that
version. You want to constantly try to improve
upon your results.

The more you improve, the more money you
make. It's just that simple.

I will teach you about some other testing methods
in the near future, but for now you should have
at least a basic grasp on why it's so important.

Ok, so HOW do you implement this?

Well, to be perfectly honest with you, there isn't a
100% "perfect" service that I can "highly" recommend
you use -- because the existing ones have
some problems that keep them from being 100%
accurate.

But for now, using "something" is better than nothing.

You can use this service to start tracking the results
of calls to action. You simply paste a little bit of
code on the page where the call to action is, and
then some other code on the "thank you"
page of that call to action (or whatever page you
serve next to people after they take the action).

This code simply creates a hidden "counter"
that you can then take those numbers and do
the math on to figure out your conversion ratios --
as I described above.

I'm not sure if Clickalyzer will allow you to
run split tests or not -- I haven't used their
service in ages. It didn't when I had tried it.

I, personally, use my own proprietary technology

testing and tracking. What I use is quite a bit more
powerful than what's currently available for marketers
to use.

However, I *will* be allowing others to use my testing and
tracking "system" very soon! I've had many of my
Internet marketing friends BEG ME to come out
with a service with it, so I am *finally* going to
do it.

I honestly believe that "Testing and Tracking" is
90% of the equation for making money online. I can't
stress how important it is.

And on another note about testing and tracking,
here's a BOMBSHELL I dropped during my presentation...

3. Header graphics almost always HURT conversion rates!

This was a big shocker to the crowd.

I discovered this myself after testing some different things.
(I test stuff like mad.)

I finally decided to run a true split test with one of my sites
to see how a version WITHOUT the header graphic would do
against the original version. Almost all marketers online
are using pretty header graphics across the top of their
direct marketing "mini sites" -- myself included! I just
"assumed" someone had originally TESTED it and found
it to produce more sales than just having a sales letter
with no graphic.

I was wrong -- and so are thousands of other people that are
using header graphics on their sites right now.

RESULT: The version without the header graphic produced
37% MORE SALES!

Yes, 37% more sales. That's a HUGE difference. In fact,
I was kicking myself for not having tested this before. I can't
imagine (I don't want to think about it) how much money I
lost because I had a site designed like other people's mini sites.

But maybe this was a FLUKE? Maybe this was just the
case with *MY* site. Maybe my header graphic was too ugly,
or too distracting, or the filesize was too big? Maybe it only
made a difference in MY case.

So I picked up the phone and gave my close friend
Stephen Pierce a call. I ask Stephen to do me a favor and
run a test for about a week -- I knew that he was getting tons
of traffic to his "Whole Truth" site everyday and would be able to
get conclusive results of a test very quickly.

Stephen agreed and began running a test of the same version
of his site but without a header graphic.

RESULT: The version without the header graphic produced
50% MORE SALES!

50 PERCENT!

Do you think Stephen was HAPPY about this? :-)

This one simple change is going to produce THOUSANDS of
dollars in sales (each month) that he would not have been making.

This is the POWER of testing and tracking.

BUT I STILL WASN'T TOTALLY CONVINCED...

I still wasn't 100% sure that the "No Header" test was conclusive.
I wanted MORE PROOF.

So I called my buddy Armand Morin on the phone. As you may

So Armand ran a split-test with a header version against

400% MORE SALES.

Yep, FOUR HUNDRED PERCENT!

Now, this "No Header" vs. "Header" design issue may not be
the same for all sites. There might be some sites that look
more professional with a header and that allows them to sell
more than maybe a version without a graphic header. Our
tests consistently showed the version with no header graphic
produced more sales, but as with anything TEST IT YOURSELF
and go by YOUR RESULTS.

Don't just take my word for it. Test it and see what works
best with your site. It's just possible that your site may
sell better WITH a graphic header.

The "reason" behind why the no header version outproduces
the header version is probably because the HEADLINE
(showing the primary BENEFITS) is pushed farther down
on the page and people may not even get a chance to read
it before they decided to leave.

Some people will only spend 10 seconds on your site before
leaving and if they see that header first, that may be all
they check out before making the decision to leave.

If people read the headline and get sucked into the copy,
they are more likely to continue reading the sales letter --
and thus more likely to BUY.

You know, there's a reason that sales letters that sold MILLIONS
of dollars worth or products and services for YEARS in direct
mail didn't have a big graphic "strip" across the top like
a graphic header. I'm sure with the millions of sales letters
that were tested someone tried it and it didn't work as well.

There's a lot we can learn from Direct Marketing masters.
Even, though, the Internet is INTERACTIVE, many of the
50 year old + techniques still work today online.

So, it is possible and there are people who have gone from having no money to earning $200,000 per year. You can do it, but you need to treat it seriously, and spend the time to make it work.

Marketing forums

If you need an unbiased opinion about different products or just want free advice, then marketing forums are a great place to go. Here is a list of the major forums where you can get information on Internet marketing.

These forums can also be a good way to get people interested in your product BUT remember you cannot directly promote your product with posts on the forums. You will quickly get a very bad name, and banned from the forum. Instead it is ok to have a signature line at the end of the post. For example my signature line says:

Choosing affiliate programs that make you lots of $$$$

Certain affiliate programs have a very high profit potential. Others don't have much chance of making an income, at all.

So how do you choose? Well obviously it depends upon the content of your site. It doesn't work to promote dog collars to people who are looking for holiday information. There are affiliate programs on just about anything, but only some programs are highly profitable. If you are working with a very profitable affiliate program, then you can actually build your entire site around the affiliate program itself.

So, which affiliate programs make the most money?

If you have a high traffic site (100,000 visitors per month), then you can make money with any affiliate program as long as it is related to the content of your site. However if you have a low traffic site, you need to be more selective to make money. Look for the following characteristics of a good affiliate program:

1. Lifetime commissions. Certain affiliate programs give you commissions on every product that is sold to the customer forever. A great example of this is SiteSell. I am getting commissions from customers who visited the SiteSell website months ago, but only now decided to buy something.

2. Affiliate programs that have high profit for each sale. For myself, I have found that you need a profit of $30 per sale in order for it to make good money.

3. The product needs to be great quality - something that you can actually vouch for.

4. Information products are often the best type of affiliate products because they do have high profits. Many people will give you 50% commissions or more for selling their information product.

Yes, I'm an Internet Marketing old geezer.

I have pretty much tried it all and seen it
all online when it comes to marketing tactics.

Certainly, there are new strategies and tactics
being thought of and tested everyday, and that's
why I continue to buy new ebooks and teaching
products from others because you can never
know it all -- no matter how successful you are.

But the single biggest mistake I see online, and
have seen for many years, regardless of the
strategy being used, is one simple thing...

POOR TRACKING!

People often ask me...

"John, is there any ONE thing that you can
attribute your online success to?"

The answer is simple... TRACKING.

I am a tracking FREAK. I track everything.
And I mean EVERYTHING.

As my good friend Jonathan Mizel likes to say...

"As online marketers we are not in the 'marketing'
business we are in the MATH BUSINESS."

If you want to know the difference between
success and failure online it comes down to
one thing.

If you want to know the difference in making
10 dollars online or $10,000, it comes down
to one thing.

If you want to know if your hard work is not
going to waste, its comes down to one thing.

TRACKING.

I like to joke that the secret to being
successful in Internet Marketing is this
really complex "formula."

Then I go on to explain this exact formula...

When we do things online, such as our marketing
tests, site changes, place ads, buy clicks, do
a JV, whatever, one of TWO things happen
EVERY TIME.

Yes, only one of two things happen.

1. THEY MAKE US MONEY
2. THEY LOSE US MONEY

Amazing rocket science isn't it?

The fact of the matter is Internet Marketing
is EASY. It's an absolute JOKE to make money
when you have the basic fundamentals down, and
that you TRACK your efforts.

The tracking results will tell you what
works and what doesn't. Then it's EASY...

YOU KEEP DOING WHAT WORKS AND STOP DOING
WHAT DOESN'T!

In order to be extremely successful online
you must learn to track everything. You
must learn the value of tracking and get
used to doing it.

You make a change to a headline on your
site you must track it.

You test a different price you must track
it.

You use a different description on your
Web Site to get people to opt-in to your
list you must track it -- not just the
percentage of people that opted in, but
also the QUALITY of the people that opted
in. I.e. Are they buying or taking the
necessary ACTION you want for them to
take AFTER they have opted in?

The biggest tracking mistake people
make is lumping all of their TRAFFIC
SOURCES together when trying to determine
their conversion rates.

In other words, when someone is trying
to figure out how many people are buying
or taking a specific action when they visit
a site, they are taking their total
traffic numbers and doing the math
based on the total number of buyers
(or whatever the desired action was.)

BZZZZZZ THANKS FOR PLAYING.

Major mistake. Huge. Yet marketers are
doing it everyday. And ironically, it's
being done by some people that are making
a lot of money!

I know, because many of these people are
friends of mine and I've given them a hard
time about it. We laugh about it, but they
know it's true and they are working hard
to become better "trackers" as I hope
you will too.

(Don't worry I'm almost done with this article
and will stop rambling in a moment.)

The problem with not tracking traffic sources
(such as individual pay-per-click keywords,
link partners, search engine listings, JV
links, affiliate links, etc.) is this...

YOU CANNOT ACCURATELY DETERMINE WHAT IS
*WORKING* WHEN YOU TEST.

For example, if you run PPC campaigns for
multiple keywords (and if you track them
properly) you will find that some keywords
generate great conversion rates and sales.

Others will create sometimes NOTHING.

In fact, many will be losers. I.e. they don't
turn a profit. Yet many PPC advertisers
will continue to just lump all their PPC
traffic together, and as long as they are
making more than they are spending they
consider it a "Victory."

DUMB.

Tracking allows you to MAXIMIZE your efforts.
It allows you to SQUEEZE every last penny
of profit our of your marketing.

The other major pitfall with lumping all
of your traffic sources together is when
you go to make changes -- such as testing
prices, or different headlines, or new
bonus offers, or another guarantee, or
anything else.

If your traffic fluctuates on a given day
from a given traffic source (which it WILL)
your results will always be SKEWED.

Your conversion rates for a specific test
may in fact be HIGHER for that given day.
OH JOY!

But, guess what? If the traffic to your
site happened to fluctuate so more of it
happened to come that day from a source
that typically converts higher than the
rest of your traffic, it's very possible
that your "test" may have...

DECREASED YOUR CONVERSION.

That's right, DECREASED! But you'd never
know it because looking at your overall
traffic stats "appears" as if your
average daily conversion rate increased.

So what do you end up doing? You KEEP that
test because you think it is making
you more money.

99.999% of online marketers are making this
mistake. And people wonder why it can
be difficult to make money online.

Reason #1: Poor Tracking

We'll touch more on this topic in the near
future. I strongly believe it's the single
most importance element of Internet Marketing
success.

I know for a fact I would not have made 10%
of what I have been blessed to have made from
marketing online if I wasn't a tracking freak.

freak for your business. It's the ONLY thing
that matters when marketing online -- because
it tells us what works and what doesn't. There

How to get thousands and even millions of people to visit your website

There are lots of ways to generate traffic to your site. Here is an overview of some of the most powerful methods. The best strategy is to use as many of these methods as possible.

Remember the key is not just to get thousands of people to your site, but to get thousands of people who are actually looking for what you are providing on the site. People who are willing to take out their credit card and buy something, so that you actually get paid.

Getting links from other sites - This is a great way to get visitors to your site. And, in some cases you can get links that don't cost you anything. Once you have the link set up to your site, then you will have a steady stream of visitors that you don't even have to pay for. Click here for more info on getting links.

Pay Per Click search engines - This is probably the quickest way to get hits to your site. And the hits will be people that are specifically looking for your product. The only problem with this method is that it costs money for each visitor. For more information on pay per click search engines click here.

Ezine Marketing - Ezines are another great way to get qualified hits. Usually this involves putting a paid advertisement in the ezine, however it is also possible to get free publicity for your site by writing articles for Ezines. Click here more more information on ezine marketing.

Bulk Email Marketing - You should not and cannot send unsolicited emails (or spam emails) to millions of recipients. It's illegal, and it doesn't work. However you can get great hits from targeted bulk emails. Click here for more information on this.

Get to the top of the search engines - If you can get a top 10 listing with the free listings in search engines, you can get heaps of traffic this way. Click here for more info on how to get top 10 listings with the search engines.

Marketing in newsgroups and forums - this is not a great method for promoting your product ... and if you do it you must be professional in your approach. Spamming newsgroups does not work, and will get you banned. However if you have no money it might be a way to start. For more information on newsgroups click here.

Other methods I don't recommend:

Guaranteed Hits - there are a number of sites selling you 'guaranteed hits'. What this usually means is pop-ups on other people's sites. You site will come up as a pop-up or pop-under when they visit the other site. The problem with 'guaranteed hits' is that they are also usually guaranteed to be very poor quality. Most people will close your site window immediately and will not take any notice of your site at all. You can get them pretty cheap however, and pop-ups can work for some products. If you do use this method, make absolutely sure that you track very carefully to find out how many sales you actually get from these 'hits'.

Off-line advertising - large companies may be able to afford to advertise their site off-line, but for the little guy it is usually very expensive. What you can do is to make sure that you have your site listed on your business cards, letterheads ... and any promotional material related to your business.

Ideas for products to sell on the Internet

If you don't already have a concept of what you want to sell, or you want to write an ebook, but are not sure what to write about, here are a few resources to help you.

There are lots of potential products out there, which is the best one for you to choose? Well, there are three things to consider when coming up with an idea of a product to sell on the Internet:

1. Are you going to enjoy being involved with it?

2. Will people pay for it?

3. Are there already lots of products out there on the same topic? Or, is your product in some way unique.

Only you can answer question number one. Remember that if you are really enthusiastic about something then you are much more likely to be successful at it. If you are just doing something for the money, then success is still possible but can be more difficult, and not as enjoyable.

To answer question number two you may need to do some market research. Ask people who fit into your target market if they would buy the product. Don't ask them if they "like your product", because most people will say "yes", just to be nice. Ask if they would buy it, and how much they would pay.

Also you need to research what people are searching for on the Internet Are they searching for information on your product? Go to the page on keyword research for more information on this.

The last thing you need to know is if there is a lot of competition in the same area. Search on google for your product area. What sites come up in the top 10 search results? Are they all competing products to your idea? If so, can you develop a slightly different niche that will make you different from all the other products out there.

There are two basic options to create your web site:

1. Build it yourself.
2. Get a professional designer to build it for you.

The problem is that most web designers based in the USA or other first world countries charge large amounts of money to build the web site. It might cost you $5,000 to build the site, and you don't even know if they will build something that meets your needs. There are much less expensive ways to do it, and get the same or better results.

It saves you a lot of money because it does all of these things for you, and so you don't have to pay separately for hosting, registering your domain name ... and all the other stuff that goes with designing a site. Alternatively you can get a software package like Dreamweaver or Frontpage, but these packages are much more difficult to use, and they won't submit to the search engines, host your site and all the other stuff that goes with Site Build It. Remember, the purpose of the site is to sell, and make you money, not to look nice and pretty. This is a crucial point. However you build your site, you need to make sure that your site is easy to navigate and explains your product or service clearly. Keeping this in mind, the thing that you should focus on with your site is the words, and the overall strategy for generating sales of your product. Don't worry too much about the design. Of course a nice pretty design is important, especially for luxury items like designer handbags for example. However the key point is that your site actually sells your product and makes money.

A great way to make money from your site is using affiliate programs. With affiliate programs you don't need to have your own product because you can sell another person's product and get a commission ... they handle the processing, payment and delivery of the product and you just receive a check. That's how I make over $8340 every month on the net, just selling other people's products. If you do have your own product you can look for connected or related products and sell these products to your visitors after they have bought your own product. In any case make sure that you are careful when hiring a web designer and selecting web hosting services.... it's important to get this part of your business strategy right.

List of freelance sites to hire a freelance programmer, web designer or writer.

Elance - The largest online freelance site. Probably the best site if you want a large professional job. However if you are looking at a smaller job or you want to cut costs to the bone you may be better off with Rentacoder or Scriptlance. Elance charges the freelance providers to just be listed on the site, whereas Rentacoder and Scriptlance only charge the providers once a project has been selected.

Rentacoder - Probably the second largest coding freelance site. Worth checking out. When you get a project done through Rentacoder you put the entire project fees into an escrow account. You don't release the fees until the project is complete. This is good because it gives reassurance to the coder that they are going to pay you, but it also can be difficult if you have a large project, because you have to pay the entire amount into an escrow account, although you can put the project into stages and pay based on each stage.

Scriptlance - This site has the lowest costs but it doesn't have some of the features of Elance and Rentacoder. Not as professional but good if you want really cheap coding.

Getafreelancer.com - Another reasonably good freelancing site

Guru - quite a large outsourcing site

Contracted Work - a reasonably sized contracting site

Use Site Build It to build your web site

Site Build It may be a better option for you than hiring an outside contractor. This software will give you high ranking on the search engines as well as have your own email list and hosting all included. How to select a web host

Problems with your web host can cost you a lot of money. Make sure that you make a careful choice in this area.

Here are the most important things that you should look out for:

1. Make sure that they have good technical support. Preferably 24 hour 7 day per week support.

2. They need to have a fast connection speed. It is no good if it takes people forever to download your site.

3. Make sure that they guarantee their availability at least 99% of the time, preferably more (some guarantee 99.7% or 99.9%). When your website is successful, one day that it is down can cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars.

4. You should have your own domain name (www.mydomain.com). The problem with free hosting is that they won't offer you your own domain, which means that your website looks very unprofessional

Some other things to look out for, that you may or may not need depending on what type of web business you are going to operate:

Ability to have a secure server for credit card transactions.
You might need autoresponders for your website.
Access to your log files so you can get stats for your visitors.
Unrestricted FTP access to modify your site.
Access to your personal CGI bin.
Shopping cart software.

Find domains that have just expired

Sometimes you can get a really good domain name by looking for a domain that has just expired. Thousands of domains expire every week, and some of them are just because the owner forgot to pay! If you look carefully you can find some excellent domains. You might even find a domain that is already listed in Yahoo, or a domain that has lots of links to it from other sites - this way you can get a head-start with your web business!

Different models for making money on the Internet

There are several strategies for making money on the net. Here are some possible options:

Strategy 1: Affiliate marketing

This is probably the quickest and easiest. You don't need to get your own products - you simply sell other people's products and services. You don't even need a merchant account, and it's possible to start out without even having your own website (but if you are serious about affiliate marketing you will have to build websites). Strategy 2: Writing an ebook or other type of information product, recording an information CD set or shooting a DVD/video series.

This is a great strategy because there are infinite possibilities for the type of product that you can create. There are so many niche markets that you can write about: It could be a course on Japanese gardens, How to start your own babysitting business, How to sell your paintings or artwork … there are thousands of possibilities and many that have not yet been touched by online marketers. Of course you don't have to write the information yourself, you can get a ghost writer or hire someone to produce the DVD. It is easy to find these people, for example you can go to http://www.rentacoder.com/.

Strategy 3: Search Engine Optimization.

Learn how to get a site to the top of the search engines and make money on the site by promoting affiliate programs or by Google Adsense. I have included this as a business method because there are some people who focus just on Search Engine Optimization and do nothing else.

Strategy 4: Drop-shipping.

You can develop a relationship with a manufacturer so that you can get orders for their product on the Internet; you process their credit card and then just send their details to the manufacturer who sends the product directly to the customer's door.

Strategy 5: Joint Ventures.

Similar to affiliate marketing, but with this strategy you set up relationships with people who have products that they sell online.

Strategy 6: Lead Generation.

You create sites that generate leads for companies online. For example, you create leads for mortgage brokers; you give them the details of the people who are interested in getting a new mortgage and you get paid for each person. The mortgage broker will then call the lead and try to sell them on their particular mortgage offer.

Strategy 7: Email marketing.

Of course you need to stay away from spam, and new legislation makes it more difficult for legitimate opt in email marketers, but this is still a highly effective way to make money on the Internet. Don't try email marketing if you don't know what you are doing - don't even think about buying a list of emails and sending out a promotional message unless you know exactly what you are doing. You have to know that any emails you have are legit and ‘opt in'.

Strategy 8: Selling software or software services.

…Another great way to make money online.

Strategy 9: Selling services online.

For example you could start a site providing niche legal services or doing web design. This is ok, but it is not as highly leveraged and automated as other Internet businesses.

Strategy 10: Selling your own products online.

This is the option that 90% of businesses pursue online. It also has less leverage and is more difficult to automate than other Internet businesses.

Strategy 11: Domain name strategies.

You can make money buying and selling domain names (although this strategy is quite difficult nowadays). You can also buy expired domains with existing traffic, you can buy domains with misspellings in order to get free drive-by traffic.

Strategy 12: Buying websites.

You can buy websites that have good positions in the search engines but are not utilizing their positions very effectively, and you can improve the marketing and utilization of their site and make money. This is a very powerful strategy if you do it correctly.

Other strategies:
There are many other possibilities that you might not have thought of such starting an affiliate network. There are several other possibilities but most of them are a bit more towards the more difficult end of the spectrum.

Have a think about which strategy you want to look at. Each strategy has advantages and disadvantages and each strategy has a lot of stuff that you need to learn to be able to apply it effectively.

How to find profitable niche markets

There are thousands of potential areas that you can focus on when you are starting a new Internet business. Some are likely to be hugely profitable; others will probably not make you very much money. So how do you choose an area that is going to be profitable to you where there’s hopefully not too much competition?

The skill of selecting the right market to focus on is one of the most important if not the most important skill of Internet marketing. Choose the wrong market and your chances of success have just gone down by ten times.

So what should you look for?

Firstly you should research what people are looking for on the Internet – find out what keywords are they searching for. You need to know what people are interested in. For this type of research I use Wordtracker http://www.profitpuppy.com/wordtracker

Wordtracker will estimate how many keyword searches there would be on Google each day. Generally I would want to see more than 500 predicted searches per day on Google, but it really depends on the particular niche that you are looking at.

You can get really creative when searching for niches using Wordtracker. If you are looking at writing ‘how to’ videos you can type “how to” into Wordtracker and see what you come up with. Here are some of the ones I got when I entered “how to” (I left the sexual ones out!):

how to build a workbench
how to write a resume
how to knit
how to draw
how to tell if he is lying
how to draw anime
how to build a chopper motorcycle
how to crochet
how to play poker
how to become an actor
how to play guitar

All of these are potential subjects for an information product. You can also try typing these phrases into Wordtracker and seeing what comes up: “buy online”,“tips”, “guide”, “advice” etc.

If you are developing an affiliate site or an information product there are
several other methods you can use to research and find a profitable area:

One very effective method is to research how other people are already making money. The advantage of this is that you know that the area is profitable. The disadvantage is that you also know there is some competition. Often the most profitable areas also have the most competition.

How do you find these areas?

One way is to search on Overture http://www.profitpuppy.com/overture for the keyword that you are interested and find out which of the sites that are advertising on Overture are affiliate sites. You can tell if they are affiliate sites by looking at the site and seeing if they are promoting various affiliate programs.

Another method for finding profitable niche areas is to sign up to several of the affiliate networks. Some of the networks will give you a ranking of how much people are earning from each of the affiliate programs. This is usually ranked by earnings per click. This means how much on average the affiliates are earning for each click. Preferably you want an affiliate program which is earning over $1 per click … this is hard to find but when you do find one which earns you this much you know there is great potential for profit. However, you can still make good money from programs which pay 20 cents per click or more.

The affiliate model – how to make money as an affiliate.

Affiliate programs are a very easy and effective way to make money on the Internet right? so how do they work?

Essentially, affiliate programs are a way that you can promote other people’s products and get paid a commission for promoting them. You can get paid to promote almost any type of product and service on the web.

Most of the top companies on the web have Affiliate Programs. Dell computers, Amazon, Expedia, AT&T, Chase bank, Delta airlines and Walmart are just a few examples - did you know that you can be paid a commission to sell products online for any one of these companies?

The best thing about affiliate programs is that it is so easy to set up a
relationship with any one of these companies. Normally in business you would have to spend weeks or months of meetings, proving that you are a worthwhile partner to be able to do business with these sorts of companies. However, an affiliate program allows you to get commissions straight away as a little guy,without all the hassle of meetings and forming that relationship.

There are thousands of affiliate programs that you can promote on the web. You have so many choices that you could pursue. The key factors for success with affiliate programs are the following:

Choosing the right affiliate programs. If you choose certain affiliate programs you will likely only be able to earn a small income because their payouts are small. Other affiliate programs have very large payouts and high earning per click (EPC). If you don’t know what earning per click (EPC) is, it is the average amount that affiliates earn from each click to the site that they are sending money to. Some networks express it in earnings per one hundred clicks.

For example you could say an EPC of $57. This means you make $57 on average for every 100 visitors that you send to a site or 57 cents for sending one visitor to the site. Generally I am looking for affiliate programs with an EPC of $20 or more, which means I am making 20 cents per visitor. Usually, I focus on programs that have an EPC of $100 or $1 per visitor. When you are earning $1 per visitor you have potential for a lot more profit.

The second critical factor is getting the traffic to the affiliate program. We are going to talk about this more in other issues of the Ecourse.

The third factor is being able to pre-sell to the visitors of your site. Let’s say that you have a website where you discuss different products and services, a comparison type of site. You can recommend the product that you think is most beneficial and then when people click through to the site after your recommendation, they are much more likely to buy.

How do you find good affiliate programs?

One easy way is to go to all of the affiliate networks and sign up for affiliate programs there. The major affiliate networks like Commission Junction have thousands of affiliate programs that you can join in all sorts of categories. It also depends on what type of strategy you are pursuing with affiliate
programs. There are many different strategies and we can’t go into all of them now, we’ll talk about them in detail in some later issues of the ecourse. However here are a few strategies to get your brain ticking over with ideas:

You can promote affiliate programs directly using Google Adwords. You simply promote the program by creating your own ads. This is the quickest way to make money on the Internet as you can get started and in 1-2 hours have some ads up that are making you money. However, it is getting more and more difficult to make money with this strategy as there are too many people doing it. As with anything in life, if something is too easy to make money, everyone will start doing it and it then becomes more difficult because there is more competition.

One strategy is to focus on a particular niche area … let’s say you decide to do a site on car rentals. You could then join all the affiliate programs to do with car rentals. You can find many of them through the major networks, but you might also need to search on Google for something like – ‘car rental affiliate program’.

Another strategy is to build lots of little mini sites on the Internet focusing on different keyword phrases that people are searching for and get free search engine listings in Google and other search engines. This is a great strategy because the traffic that you get is free. This is general called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is great and can make you a lot of money but it is also very tricky. It is not easy to get to the top of the search engines. It requires a lot of knowledge, and quite a bit of effort. Don’t think that you can just read a book and do it … normally it is going to take months of dedication to get there.

That’s a few ideas, but whatever area you are involved in on the Internet you should definitely be promoting affiliate programs. Even if you sell your own product online you should still look into affiliate programs as a back end profit centre for your business.

How I built a site in just 8 hours that makes between $100 to $150 a week.

Actually, for a while this site was making more then $350 a week. On top of the 8 hours it took me to set up, I only spend about 10 or so minutes a week on maintenance. …

Ok, so here’s what I did: firstly, I found a great affiliate program that I wanted to promote. In this case it was the satellite TV affiliate program that I mention on my page: http://www.profitpuppy.com/top-affiliates.htm. This program pays $50 per sale which is reasonably attractive...

After joining the program; I hired a university student from a local university to design the website for me. I simply put an ad in the local university job search, and got about 15 responses from students who know how to design websites. I got them to email me an example of a website that they had designed, and then I got them to start designing the satellite TV website for free (as a test to see if they had good website design skills, because I certainly don't!)

I picked the guy who designed the best test site and hired him for four hours at a cost of $40 US to design the site. He designed this site for me: http://www.dishnetwork-free.com.

It’s not particularly fancy but does the job. Note: although there is nothing special about this site copying it isn’t a good idea. This site, like most others, is subject to copyright. You are welcome to design a similar site, just don’t copy any of the wording or layout - you can probably do something much better anyway!

I then registered the domain name (I often use http://www.mydomainfriend.com to search for good domain names) and put the site up with my web host. You can see a list of good hosts at: http://www.profitpuppy.com/hosting.htm.

The last (and most important step) involved making a list of keywords that people might search for when looking to buy a satellite TV system. To make this list I used Wordtracker - you can find out more about this at:

Then I logged onto my Google Adwords account and put in a bid for these keywords at 5 cents each. Google Adwords is a pay per click search advertising service. If you do not understand how pay per click advertising works, then have a look at this page: http://www.profitpuppy.com/pay-per-click.htm

In this instance, I was generating about 800 clicks each week from the Adwords at a total cost of $40 resulting in at least 8 sales each week of satellite TV systems. This site is now generating less traffic and lower revenues (probably because I have told so many people how to do it!), however, the sales are still ticking over.

This strategy is probably the quickest and easiest way to make money on the web.

You simply sign up for a good affiliate program and promote it using Google Adwords. In this case I actually built a one page site - the main reason was that you can’t advertise on Google if the site you are promoting uses pop-ups. Because the site I was advertising did have a pop-up, I had to build my own onepage site which would then in turn advertise the other site.

It is a very quick and easy way to make money on Google, and it is a great way to get started because you can get it going quite quickly. However, you have to remember that it is becoming very difficult to find cheap clicks on Google Adwords.

To advertise a satellite TV related offer you would now be looking at paying $1a click to promote the offer. However, it is still possible to find some clicksat only 5 cents if you look hard enough.

This is a great way to make money on the net with little effort. I would recommend that you start out using this method, but don’t rely only on this method. You need to start looking at other techniques as well such as getting your own product or getting free listings with search engines.

It can be done.

I’m almost certain that many people reading this Ecourse have no technical skills at all? I’m not embarrassed to let you know that I don’t have great technical skills… I’ve learned how to build really basic websites, but nothing fancy.

The fact is you don’t need to have great technical skills to make a good website. In some ways having limited web design abilities gives you an advantage because you won’t get caught up in, what can sometimes be, confusing details. As a novice you’ll be able to focus on what counts … That is; making money, marketing your site and getting visitors.

If you have no money, then you will need to learn how to do all of these things yourself which will slow you down considerably. If you can afford to pay someone else to design your site, then you can get a great site designed at a tiny fraction of the cost (compared with what it would cost to start a “real” bricks and mortar business in the offline world).

Web design can be a be a bit overwhelming when you are starting out, especially if you haven’t done it before - it’s hard to know what you should do and where to start. However, once you’ve been through the initial process it gets easier and easier.

To start with, let’s look at all the “technical” elements that you need to
include for consideration on your new site. We will be covering several of these aspects in more depth in later issues, but for now, I’ll provide an overview of the things you will need to get started:

Domain name – you need a domain name for your site (E.g. www.yoursite.com)

Web hosting – you need to get your site hosted somewhere so other people can see it.

An auto-responder email service – you probably want to have some kind of email auto-responder set up. This is can help communicate effectively with your audience by send them a series of emails from you automatically.

Copy (i.e. words).

Design – you need to get a template designed for your site.

Audio - audio has proven to generate more sales and interest to visitors.

A shopping cart service – if you are planning an ecommerce site and want to be able to accept online payments, you will need a shopping cart service where you can accept credit cards via a secure server.

A merchant account – to accept credit cards you need to have your own, or a third party merchant account.

An affiliate program - you may want to have your own affiliate program. We’ll talk about this in future issues of the Ecourse.

If you can combine the above elements and put them together effectively, you’ll have the essence of a great website. Keep in mind that you may not need the shopping cart service, the merchant account, or the affiliate program if you are not actually selling your own product.

The Domain name and Web hosting

I will be examining domain names in more detail in a later issue of the Ecourse, but for now, I’ll assume that you need a new domain name for your site. My Domain Friend helps to simplify, what can be, a quite often lengthy and tiresome process. An Auto-responder service

If you want to build a profitable site you should definitely consider an
auto-responder service. If you get someone to your website, there’s a good chance they may never come back. By using an auto-responder you can build a valuable relationship with you your visitors and increase the likelihood that that they will visit your site again (unless they unsubscribe!).

There are many different ways you can use auto-responders. For example, you might start an Ecourse, or remind your visitors of upcoming events or product developments in a newsletter. Auto-responders are crucial if you want to maximize the profits from website. In a later issue of the Ecourse, I’ll be showing you how to put together great sounding newsletters to help you get more bang for your buck.

Writing copy for your site

Words are the MOST important element of your site: Effective copy is the one factor that will ensure that visitors react in a way that you want them to (whether it’s to buy something or simply to browse the information available on your site).

Of course, the way you write for your site depends on what type of site you are building and what you want to achieve. If you are building a site with sales in mind, you’re going to need a copywriter to carefully draft a great sales pitch.

If you’re not a confident writer, you’re going to have to find someone to do it for you. The bad news is, a good copywriter is hard to find. However, if you fancy yourself as writer, you should start out by trying to develop the content yourself (other sites are always a good reference point!).

If you are building an affiliate marketing site you should concentrate on well worded copy to highlight the programs and products that you are promoting. General writing tasks, like this, are a much easier undertaking as there is usually a wealth of available existing information about your products or programs (sometime affiliate programs will even provide you with useful copy for you site). “General” (as opposed to specialist) writers are usually much easier to find.

In my experience, you can provide much more powerful content if you can afford to outsource your writing tasks to an experienced copy writer with a great understanding of your product or service. By taking this approach, you will have more free time to spend researching new opportunities and managing the other elements of your site which could be making you money.

In general, you can expect to pay around $15-30 per page (around 400 words). It’s possible employ writers for around $5 per page, but don’t expect polished copy for that price. For a reasonable copywriter you will be looking at a minimum of $50 per page. Not surprisingly, great copywriters charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars per page.

Designing the site

As with the other elements of your site, there are a few options here; you can learn how to do design a site yourself (if you don’t already have the skills). The disadvantage of this method is that designing a nice looking site can be quite a lengthy process. Again, if you have the budget for it, I would recommend outsourcing the work, especially if you are just getting started.

Freelance web designers (unlike good copy writers) are everywhere. Contracting your web design tasks to a freelancer is usually an inexpensive and sound option. Another (and less appealing option) is to get a local firm to design a site for you. If you reside in the USA or UK this is likely to be an expensive proposition (sometimes up to 500% on what you can pay for a freelancer) – I wouldn’t recommend this option unless you have money falling out of your pockets : )

If you would prefer to talk to the person that is designing the site, think about alternatives like hiring a university student or someway studying graphic design. You can often find someone who has great web design skills and is relatively inexpensive.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for some examples of work before employing someone. It’s important to know that they can create site design that you are going to be happy with.

How to get bundles of traffic to your website …

learn how to get traffic to your website - After all, it’s going to be pretty hard to make money if you don’t have any visitors!

Generating traffic is one of the most important elements of building a successful internet business - once you’ve worked out how you can drive quality visitors to your website you should be on the road to success (wherever that is!). By creating quality traffic cheaply, you can almost afford to be a little lackluster when it comes to other elements of the site (although this depends what sort of site you have and who your audience is).

In this issue of the Ecourse we aren’t going to cover each method in great detail as each method will take a whole issue to explain properly. For the moment, I’m providing an overview of the different techniques and options available for generating traffic:

Free Search Engine Traffic

Getting listed in search engines like Google is a great way to get free traffic (There are over 200 million people using the Google search engine each day!). If you can get to the top of Google for important and valuable keyword phrases thenit’s possible to get loads of free traffic - a fantastic strategy, but one that is hard to master.

You have to be extremely dedicated and focused to succeed in this way- but it is possible (especially if you can find an area where there’s no too many people trying the same thing). Another consideration is that many search engines crowd their listings with paid ‘advertisements’ which makes it increasingly harder to stand out in the crowd.

Cost per click (CPC) advertising

CPC Advertising is the fastest (and easiest) method for getting traffic to your site. Another advantage is that you only pay for each click that you get to your site.

You can set up an account with Google Adwords and start getting traffic to your site within 10-20 minutes. The other major system that implements CPC advertising is Overture (who has relationships with Yahoo and MSN and other major search engines).

The difficulty is that there are also lots of other people who are going to be competing with you and driving up the cost per click. For example, if you want to bid on the keyword “mortgage” in Overture you are probably going to be paying several dollars for every person that clicks on your ad. The trick with CPC advertising is to find clicks that are much cheaper (in the range of 5-25 cents per click). Viral traffic or referrals

This is probably the most powerful method of getting traffic to your site if you now how to make it work. If you can get other people to tell their friends about your website, there’s a good chance they will tell their friends as well. Such ‘viral advertising’ is terrific because it is totally free and comes packaged with a recommendation from a friend.

This is how Hotmail got started; at the end of each Hotmail email was a tag line which said “If you want to join Hotmail and get free email click here”, so any person who sent the email to another person was actually promoting Hotmail for free.

Writing articles for an ezine

You can get free publicity by writing articles for ezines who accept content from outside writers - another popular (and free) method to attract new visitors to your site.

Online forums or news groups

Generally most forums and news groups do not allow blatant advertising of your product or service. In fact, in doing so you would probably get yourself banned from a site. However, you can make ‘intelligent’ posts in a forum, some will even allow you to have a tag or signature line at the end of your post (if someone reads the post they might decide to click onto your tag line and visit your site, especially if you have provided some useful advice).

Advertising in Ezines – There are some ezines which accept advertisements – a great way to gain exposure with a targeted audience. However, you should be cautious; make sure the ezine really does have the readership that they are claiming.

Solo email advertisements – Instead of advertising in an ezine, you may be ableto pay to send out a solo mailing to the readers of an ezine.

Online classifieds – There are a number of places where you can advertise in online classifieds, sometimes for free or sometimes you need to pay. I haven’t had any personal experience with this area, and I’m not sure that it is really that effective, but everything is worth a try!

Offline advertising – Some companies have had success in advertising in offline media such as newspapers and magazines. I wouldn’t focus on this area until you have exhausted all other online possibilities.

Banner advertising – If you have a product which is aimed at a general consumer market (and you have good conversion rates) then you can be quite successful with this method. However, you will generally need to spend a minimum of $5000 just to test and see if it is working (that’s if you advertise on any of the major banner networks). I wouldn’t recommend banner advertising unless you have experience with Internet marketing and / or you have a really great product or offer.

Pop-ups – As you probably already know, untargeted pop-ups are generally quite ineffective (unless your aim is to have your visitors pull their own hair out!). Once again it can work but it is only for those who are experienced at the game. Targeted pop-ups can be a lot more effective but you need to make sure that they are really targeted – a lot of research is needed to make successful use of ‘pops’.

Guaranteed traffic 10,000 hits!!! – If you ever see any promotions for guaranteed hits, for example: “10,000 hits for $360” - stay away. Generally, companies making these offers will get you hits by using overpriced pop-up traffic.

Other online advertising methods – There are many other ways niche methods to advertise online and we can’t cover the all in this issue of the Ecourse, but they are all worth trying as long as it doesn’t cost you too much money.

Free links from other sites – A highly recommended way to boost traffic is to get links from other sites for free. To get quality traffic the site should have a similar subject to yours and the other site needs to give your site a great recommendation from a page that people visit on their site -not just a simple link from their links page- A link from their links page may increase your popularity with Google but it is unlikely to get you any visitors.

Affiliate links from other sites – An affiliate program is a great way to get visitors to your site to buy your product. This is obviously only appropriate if you have a product to sell which you can offer an affiliate commission on. If you are only selling other people’s products through their affiliate programs then you can’t really have an affiliate program of your own.

Other paid links from other sites – You can pay other sites to link to your site in an arrangement where you pay per month or other negotiated period.

Affiliate networks – If you have an affiliate program you can get your program onto an affiliate network which gives you instant access to a whole lot of new affiliates who can promote your program.

Joint Ventures – I have left this to last because it is one of the most effective methods. You can get a relationship with someone who has a site in your general topic area or an ezine in your topic area. The key to this method is to develop a relationship with that person. Then they can promote your product and get a commission from the sales that ensue.

Which method should I use?
There is no best method for getting traffic. Generating quality traffic requires some hard work and dedication – everyone will hit and miss using the methods described above. The most important thing is to test each method, look at the results and the overall trends in your sales and then decide which method is best for you.

SEO 101 – the basics of how to get to the top of the search engines

Search Engine Optimization (commonly referred to as SEO) is one of the best waysto get traffic to your site. The best thing about SEO is that the traffic you get is free! If you manage to get top ten listings in a major search engine like Google, you can get hundreds or even thousands of visitors to your site.
Depending on your site’s subject matter, you might even be able to start earning a significant income purely from the popularity of your site. For example, if you have a site on jokes you might be able to get a substantial amount of traffic, but you’re unlikely to earn a huge income.

On the other hand, if you have a top ranking site on Google for the keyword phrase “web hosting”, you’ll be able to earn at least $1-2 million (probably more like $3-4 million) per year from that site alone. However, to get into the top 10 in Google for the phrase “web hosting” is extremely difficult, you would need to be a search engine pro to do it - even then, it might take you two years to get there with a team of 5 people working around the clock.

A profitable site will be based on a good keyword phrase, a good topic (or subject material) and be different enough to stand out from the competition. If you can combine these elements successfully you’ll increase you chances of turning a profit from your site.

Keep in mind that there are a number of niche areas where there is not so much competition but still the opportunity to make a decent profit. There are hundreds of such areas where you have the potential to earn $500-2000 per month.We’ll talk about keyword research and finding profitable niche areas in later issues, but for now, let’s look at the basics of how to get a site to the top of the search engines.

I’m going to focus on SEO for Google because it’s the largest (and the best) search engine which will generate the most traffic, especially if you can master all of the right optimization methods. Google has a very complicated system for determining which sites make it to the top of the search engine. There are manyfactors involved and there is no precise formula. A further consideration isthat Google often changes its formula so you can’t rely on it being the same from month to month. However, there are a few key factors which are unlikely to change dramatically:

Keywords phrases should be one of the most important considerations when you are optimizing your site (remember that for each page of the site you should concentrate on one or two keyword phrases).

Keyword phrases (which you want to get to the top of the search engine for)should be well researched. For more information on researching keywords, have a look at http://www.profitpuppy.com/keyword-research.htm where you can find links to useful keyword tools.

Key factors for getting to the top of Google:

The keyword phrase in the title of the page - you should have the phrase in the title of the page.

The keyword phrase in the text of the page – you want the keyword phrase to be up the top of the page, preferably as high up the top of the code on the page as possible. You also want the phrase repeated a few times on the page. Don’t worry about how many times, just at least 3-4 times and more if you think it fits in naturally with the content of the page.

Include the keyword phrase in a large font heading with H1 tags (this may make a small difference).

Links into your site from other sites (covered in more detail below).

Links within your site (covered below).

Links to other sites (covered below).

Links into your site from other sites
This is probably the most important factor for getting good search engine listings. You need to have good links coming into your site from other sites.

You want those links to be from popular sites that also have lots of links coming into them. Google uses a Page Rank system which is a rough measure of how many links are coming into your site. You want links from sites that have good Page Rank. Creating 50 of your own sites and interlinking them won’t increase your page ranking.

How do you get links from other sites?
The main ways are to: Create a great site that people naturally want to link to, Get an affiliate program so people can link to your site and get paid, swap links with other sites, get listed in directories such as dmoz.org and buy links from people who have sites with a high PR (Page Rank). Again, we’ll be talking about this in more depth in another issue of the newsletter.

The most important consideration with incoming links is that you need to have the keyword phrase in the link that directs traffic to you your site. Getting listed in directories such as DMOZ (Open Directory Project) can also help you significantly in getting a good search engine ranking in Google.

Links within your site

It helps once again if you have the keyword phrase in the links to each page of your site. For example, let’s say you have a site on baby products and you have one page where you are trying to optimize for the keyword phrase “cheap baby supplies”. You should make sure that links that come into that page have the phrase “cheap baby supplies” so that your links look like this: Click here for cheap baby supplies

Links to other sites

You can improve your page rank if you link to other sites that have high search engine listings for the phrase that you are trying to optimize for. Note: it can also hinder if you link to pages that are off-topic. For example, you don’t want to link to a chemical arms factory from your baby supplies site.

Some other things you don’t want to do (and some things that make no difference at all) are:

- Repeating the keyword phrase multiple times on the page unless it makes contextual sense.
- Placing hidden links on your site – for example, links that are the same color as the background of the page won’t be recognized by Google.
- Optimizing your site too carefully – if it’s obvious that you have optimized your site for Google (for example, if all your incoming links use the same keyword phrase) you may be penalized. Google looks for sites that are more ‘natural’ in their structure, so if all links look the same this won’t look like an organic site to Google robots and you may be penalized for it.
- Despite popular opinion, Meta tags don’t really help at all. However, the description tag is important because that is the description that will appear in your listing on Google.

Finally, you may have heard of people using automated pages and or ‘cloaked pages’ to get high search engine rankings in Google. Personally, I don’t believein taking this approach as it’s a non-sustainable way of getting high search engine rankings (that’s not say that some people who aren’t very successful at it). I know of atleast 3 highly successful companies who generate automated pages using this software http://www.profitpuppy.com/traffic. This is a sneaky way to make it to the top of of the search engine rankings, but it can work; one guy I know is earning several million dollars per year using this technique. So it can work, but as I mentioned before, I don’t think it’s sustainable and the Google engine doesn’t take kindly to it.

How do I submit my site to the search engines?

My personal philosophy is that if your site is not found naturally by following links then it is unlikely to rank in the search engines - I don’t usually bother submitting to search engines.

So that’s the basics of how to get to the top of the search engines. We’ll have a look at the more advanced stuff later on. It takes a lot of time knowledge and dedication to get there but once you master it, SEO is a fantastic way to gettraffic and make money on the web.
